Thank you for the video. In my installation i don't see anything in grafana about log files. Each file i choose from catalog, i read the following message:"Empty results, no matching label for {filename=~"/var/log/boot.log|/var/log/dnf.log"}" Why grafana can't read or see, what loki and promtail sending to?

Ive got an issue when adding Loki as datasource in Grafana. Error says: "Data source connected, but no labels received. Verify that Loki and Promtail is configured properly." any ideas??

Check promtail and loki is configured correctly. Loki may not be receiving data from Promtail.

@@Thetips4you thank you for the response. Now the problem changed, I have actually Grafana and Loki running as docker service in their default ports and promtail as a system service. When I try to add Loki datasource, Grafana starts testing, but the result is similar as before: “Unable to fetch labels from Loki (Failed to call resource), please check the server los for more details. I am able to install grafana and also added the firewall : sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --zone=public --add-port=3000/tcp . It says ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE, can you help me with this

Grafana logs will be under var/logs/grafana.log, permission issue you need to analyze from a linux point of view.

I would suggest you to check the promtail and Loki config files to make sure the scraping host, folder, url to loki is setup correctly.

Thanks man! it helped... I had some issues with the loki yaml version and promtail yaml (version issues as the link you have provided is for the master branch (now at 2.7.0 i think) and the loki version mentioned in the video is 2.6.1) and also with the loki folder permissions (my fault).

Grafana is for different use and Loki is for different use. You cannot compare both.

Working as "root" is stupid, and encourages others to be stupid too. Only work as "root" when you ABSOLUTELY must - don't be stupid. That said, this video is a good intro on how loki/promtail works. You should also consider using your distro's packaging system to install these tools.

Hey how you change the permission of grafana logs directory ? while running promtail am getting permission denied to /var/logs/grafana

@@souravjena5927 If you are running promtail as docker contianer then map this directory with persistent storage in docker-compose file and then whatever the permission you will give to persistent storage, same will reflect to /var/logs/grafana.
