Have just watched 3 videos on this subject, this was the only one that described how to strip the pedal fully. Great job thanks.

This is the best video I've found yet, so kudos on that. A couple of things to mention here though.... 1. There was a bit of carpet fiber on the balls at the end of the spindle. Not good. 2. Pedal bearings run very slow, but are under high loading, so RX a 100% teflon grease for those. FinishLine makes such a grease and it comes in a syringe IIRC. That will eliminate ALL metal to metal contact.

Thanks for the info on the grease. Others will find that useful. Yes, slow speed, so no need for thin oils etc. Carpet fluff. Yikes, teach me for using an HD Camera LOL. But yes, hope everyone else takes better care. I usually shake it all in a bottle with degreaser in too. (ultrasound baths not quite as good)

Thank you, that was really helpful. After watching the video I managed to reassemble the pedal and it works like a charm.

Bought Ultegra used pedals for £15, about 2x weeks ago & although were once white & now paints half off, will slowly use fine sand paper to remove or paint stripper or somehow take off paint, polish metal, service inners using your video. Thankyou

I get play from the black nylon(?)/plastic lock bolt! The 7mm and 10mm are play-free and perfectly set. It's only on my right pedal. Any tips? Thinking of trying to add an spacer, between the black sleeve/lock bolt and the bearing cup.

Very informative video. On my left pedal when I tried to untighten what you call the nylon sleeve (0:55 sec) it snap right at the pedal. Thus, unable to remove the main axle from the pedal body. Any idea on how to salvage my pedal ?

Hope you found a way. Not sure what to suggest other than lots of WD40 and maybe an ultrasound bath to loosen the rubbish that must have built up inside, oh, and patience...

Hi, I did a same thing, but after putting axle back to pedal it doesn´t turn at all after tightning. I have no idea why, I lose it a little bit and it starts to spin.
@hobby_cycling7295 жыл бұрын
Just dont use the part which covers first bearings, metal pad.

Tank you. I noticed that after assembling the pedal, I did have a slight free play in the axle. I disassembled it again, compared it to the other pedal, carefully put them back together side by side in the exact same way, but couldn't get rid of the free play. No idea what it is.

Lhotse try giving the locking nut on the end a slight tighten as the end nut and the plastic sleeve are what create the pre load
@lhotse17167 жыл бұрын
I noticed this shortly afterwards actually. While assembling the pedal axle the first time I checked for play in the bearing and didn't feel any, but I guess it just wasn't noticable until the whole pedal was assembled as there is some extra leverage with the pedal body attached. I carefully tightened the locking nut and that was it.
@Demon09-_-7 жыл бұрын
Lhotse glad you figured it out. Adjusting wheels is very similar sometimes play you can't feel by wiggling the axel can be felt at the rim.somtimes even thick grease that gets displaced after a few spins can change the pre load and introduce some play
