Nice grafts Id leave both on 0:18 at least for a while until they're really established. You never know if one will spontaneously, fail or get broken.

thanks for the tip! unfortunately those grafts rotted out after water got in, will have to regraft them. not sure how it looked pretty water-tight to me 🤷♂

They have progressed really well! I need to do some pawpaw grafts soon. I would have normally done it by now, although last year I did some in early May and some in late May and it didn’t seem to make any difference, at least in my location.

I really had a lot of anxiety about doing this to my already established trees but the fruit was just too small. I now regret not doing it sooner haha. What varieties are you thinking of grafting?
@PeterEntwistle5 ай бұрын
@@raregrowsNJ I’ve never tried a bark graft, but it looks like it’s worked very well! So I have scions for 4 new varieties this year: Prima 1216, Allegheny, Shenandoah & Susquehanna. I need to get more of my pawpaws into the ground too.

@@PeterEntwistle those sound like winners, the prima is self fertile? bark grafts are pretty effective for me on many different trees I've grafted, especially citrus just be sure to add enough pressure for good contact like I did using the electrical tape
@PeterEntwistle5 ай бұрын
@@raregrowsNJ yeah, prima is meant to be self fertile. I have 5 other varieties that I grafted last year as well. I’ve just been using a cleft graft with mine as the rootstocks I have are still fairly small.
