I still love Graham Chapman, my favourite Python. He had such a deadpan, parchingly, gaspingly dry delivery, which I absolutely adored. None funnier.

What saddens me is that all his interviews were obsessed with his drinking and hardly ever about his work, would love to hear on-set anecdotes, deeper thoughts regarding his roles he played, thoughts on comedy in general, his writing process etc.

When Graham said he was a very shy person my heart went out to him and I just wanted to hug him! Life can be so cruel. Love to you Graham, whereever you are.

In many ways, Graham Chapman was the most intelligent and talented of the Python's and yet he was never quite able to figure himself out. As great an actor/performer as he was, as great a writer as he was, I always find it a great shame that he was never able to find any real success in his own right.

He was a lovely gentle bloke actually, away from the outright silliness. This interview is brilliant. RIP Graham, you were wonderfull and often too silly...

Yeah Spider, I agree, it can't have been easy, I think Graham seems so humble in this interview, admitting his alcoholism and just being honest about it. Graham Chapman was a brilliant funny man and it is still sad to think he is no longer with us. He is missed. I have been watching the IFC Monty Python programming all this week, it is so great to watch the films and the MPFC episodes again. Classic and pure genius.

This kind of footage is always needed in those documentaries where Chapman's alcoholism is discussed. Him actually admitting it is very rare to be seen. Whats really nice, its how apologetic to the group he sounds. I really liked this show. Thank you for showing us this video.

Great interview. Always wanted to know his thoughts on the filming of Holy Grail later in life. Shame he died young, RIP. Brilliant actor, writer and guy.

actually i find that quite encouraging, because he was very obviously over them at the time, and quite open and calm. and his description of getting dt's in armour is actually quite hilarious. what really gives me the chills is his cough though... :-(

Yeah that clearing of the throat is kind of chilling when you consider that he'd be diagnosed with throat cancer a year later. Of course it might not neccessarily be related, but still. Anyway, great find!

I just took a class where HPV is being linked to tonsular cancers and other cancers of the saliva drainage areas in young males. I immediately thought of Dr. Chapman. Because the profiteers are charging so much for inoculations, nobody wants to inoculate young boys - only females who might get cervical cancer from "sexual contact". Gay men need to address this. It might save another Graham Chapman. May he rest in peace.

forgotten all about this Scottish interviewer along with " elbows forward" Muriel Gray who were the sharp dudes of the incisive interview in the era of the swarmy Jonathan Ross. It all looks a bit shabby nowadays, the shoulder pads and mismatched colours. Still it is a fair trade to put up with him in order to listen to the fascinating Graham Chapman.

He realized his alcoholism was unfair to the others, and to himself. Months later, when he had some time, he decided to stop drinking.

@MoveOverCasanova You're partly right. He wasn't *fully* gay, he was bisexual. But I highly doubt it was phoney, since he was with the same guy from 1966 until his death.
@takispapas98874 жыл бұрын
Most gay guys were "bisexual" at those times. They had to be for various reasons. It still happens today a lot. By the way Graham yes was with the same guy for decades but still had a lot of sex with other men too. His mates confirmed that.
@Ratelzwatel12 жыл бұрын
He felt his alcoholism was unfair to the others, because he wasn't sure he was able to do that scene. (He adds as a side-note that he did manage to do the scene.)

If he'd stayed with us longer, he'd've done a lot more great work- The Python canon would've been bigger and greater. He was part of a remarkable team, all of whom did fine work in their own right. Jones and Palin appear to be extremely nice people- Possibly Idle too. Chapman was as much a gentleman as Jones and Palin are. Ah well- He's not the Messiah- He's a very naughty boy!

I feel the way this interviewer brought up grahams alcoholism was unprofessional, in bad taste and unimportant at the time. A good interviewer will let the person tell his tale, and maybe guide him subtlety towards different parts of his life. Not blurt out "you thought the world was 3 drinks behind didn't you..you were an alcoholic"
@IsBreaLiomCapall15 жыл бұрын

@MoveOverCasanova14 жыл бұрын
@lisambofoh good comment -- i´d say he was too openminded and got worn out by his own attitude -- i mean society just doesn´t accept "declared" bisexuality, and it seems to me as that was much of chapman´s point,-->" to justify it, --- and people making a big topic of their brave sexuality are always a bit of a pain in the ass
