This isn’t really surprising at all. Imagine looking up at the sky every night with no light pollution clearly seeing the Milky Way. I’d believe that it’s some sort of ethereal destination too.

@@grayscale888 Yes, but I believe the point of the comment was that because it's the only one shaped vaguely like a human, it's shape would have likely seemed meaningful to the earliest cultures and therefore attracted their attention, without the need for a common ancestor. And that does make equal sense, at least to me, altho' I find the common ancestor theory more exciting, lol.

That remote common ancestor was Noah and his sons and grandsons who dispersed from the Tower of Babel c 2242 BC. Some people must have already developed these bad ideas before the language change. After all, Babel was an act where all of humanity was in defiance to God’s command, so why would we assume they were all theologically orthodox? They inherited the knowledge of a soul and an afterlife, but like all unbelieving humans ever, they invented a way for them to EARN their way to heaven, because natural men cannot accept the truth that salvation is only by the grace of God and not because you deserve it

Yes, because we all know these civilizations have nothing in common and just sprung out of nowhere in their respective regions I suppose if he just said that the primitive cultures that spread from Africa were intelligent enough to create these myths which endured across many of its descendant ethnicities, instead of acting like the only possibility is that an advanced civilization took a bunch of Egyptians into their space ships and brought them to the Americas, he couldn't sell you any books.

The human mind loves pattern recognition and orions belt and other constellations were used for so many other aspects of culture and people didnt know they were other stars like our sun. I also really don't think the most people can comprehend what its like actually looking up into the sky with no light pollution and seeing the milky way and all the nebulas/gases and other amazing things in the sky. It represents basically a great unknown in the same way that death is a great unknown so I don't think its out of the realm of possibility that people would link the two.
