One of the most important aspects of this technique is moving your chest to the bars and back to weight and unweight the front end. Watch how Jarvis does it by moving his whole body towards the front and pivoting from his foot/knee, compared to how most of the students were doing it by pivoting at the waist and neck to try and get their head towards the bars......The students were getting tired quickly from poor technique until graham shows them the way...big difference! This is how the pros make everything look easy...good technique uses the bikes energy, not yours!

Helps a lot to work against the front brake too. Your advice about not using waist and upper body is true for most things, most weight transfer is done with lower body from hips down, upper body generally stays pretty neutral, like head doesnt move much no matter what.

How important is the rebound setting for this move? Seems like the more open, the easier?
@DirtJunkie
@DirtJunkie 4 жыл бұрын
@@zynx142 I think more rebound makes it easier, and I know Mario Roman runs his clickers all the way out. You can still do it with firm, even MX suspension but it definitely doesnt make things easier.

GJ makes everything look so dang smooth and easy, it's amazing how difficult it can be accomplishing these so called "simple"maneuvers and not looking like you're having a seizure. Great vid

Very cool, thank you. Never ceases to amaze me how effortless everything is with good technique. And 10'000 hours of practice... I guess same as most subscribers I do a fair bit of practice but remain resolutely useless at pivot turns, zaps, floating turns and finding traction on command. I can't even guarantee a little wheelie. What I have noticed out in the wild is that a lot of these techniques just seem to miraculously happen without me thinking about it. When I'm on terrain way beyond my skill level and trying to avoid a heart attack my brain is picking lines way ahead of me, not focused on what is immediately ahead, things seem to happen subliminally. I just wish it was a lot more consistent so I fall off less. Had a bad limp for over a week now..

Because he's using good technique he can be loose and not rely on strength..making the bike do the work. Everyone else (me included) is trying to man handle the bike because they haven't learned the technique yet. With time and practice comes smoothness.

If you combine the chest to the bars move while pushing down on one of the footpegs it makes compressing the fork a lot easier

@@PrimalEnduro yes, I agree 100% I'm just thinking, if the idea is to let the front forks help with lifting up the front wheel, wouldn't a soft/slow rebound setting make this harder to do? Which would be even better to do the practice, then adjusting the rebound back to "normal" and you do it even better?? Just trying to understand the logic 😄
@PrimalEnduro
@PrimalEnduro 2 жыл бұрын
@@elcoviljoen3025 obviously I'm not Jarvis, but I think it's more to do with the timing. The fork is going to rebound at whatever speed you have it set to. The trick is to catch the timing. If you change this just to practice then when you are riding the timing will be off. I've found that it's better to just compress and then move your body immediately....if you try to "wait for the rebound" you will miss it. But I'm no teacher so your mileage may vary!

short legs are definitely a disadvantage for technical work, but even Jarvis is not that tall. I would say he is roughly my size (5'11")....This is where balance makes up for height!
@bpowa
@bpowa 4 жыл бұрын
@@PrimalEnduro Its not that difficult when I have 1 foot on a higher bank or a rock on singletrack. On flat a surface to practice. Forget it.. The bike will flop on its side because the only way to have 1 foot on the ground is to have your bike lean sideways. No way I can have my right foot on the rear brake and right foot on the ground at the same time. I think your standard of short is us short guys standard for tall. 5'8 here on a good day. :)
@lardoretardo906
@lardoretardo906 Жыл бұрын
@LR T yes! I'm just under 5'8" & I can tell you that shorter guys definitely have to put a lot more effort into the same techniques on a full size bike. Give me a kx65 and everything is ridiculously easier. In fact I recommend shorter guys learning the techniques on a smaller bike then transfer that to a full sized. It will save yourself a ton of frustration and possible injury.
