This was the time of Mary Whitehouse and the NVALA who seemed to find everything offensive. 150,000 paid to be members of the NVALA because they were so offended by moves towards liberalising media content. If anything, you could argue people were more offended by everything in the 60s and 70s.

The US brought Match Game back 4 times since the famous '73-'82 version with minimal success. Once you've had the best there's no settling for anything less.

It was lovely to see Stuart Wagstaff again. I worked for a Television production company in that era as the Accountant and met Stuart Wagstaff many many times and we ate our lunch together. He was a wonderful man, and i loved him so much. Perfect gentleman. Very classy. Also met Dawn Lake, a lovely lady. So nice.

I never realised there was an Australian version of this show. I'm glad I've found the original, I always thought Wogans' version was the first. Kennedy is a great host and I'm off to watch more now.
@ajk
@ajk 2 жыл бұрын
Neither was the first. Match Game here in the US was the first (which was itself a revival of a 60's version of the same name), running from 1973 to 1982 across daytime, nighttime and syndication at different points throughout those years. If you've never seen it, look it up on here, there's TONS of episodes of it around, almost all of the different runs actually. It was HUGE here (so big it still runs all the time in reruns even to this very day), at one time was the #1 rated show in daytime at its' peak and ended up spawning a little show called Family Feud in 1976 (or what you'd know I assume as Family Fortunes if you live in the UK as I suspect you do). This version and Wogan's were spun from that.
@mooz8510
@mooz8510 2 жыл бұрын
@@ajk Thanks for that information, I'll definitely check those out, especially the 60's version. And I do indeed live in the UK.
@ajk
@ajk 2 жыл бұрын
@@mooz8510 You're welcome. The 60's version was very different as a forewarning, entirely different game that used a somewhat more staid question format (which even the early Match Game 73's (they used the year in the title for their daytime run), emulated before they changed to more innuendo-based questions). In fact, initially, the show struggled so much, that it was gonna be cancelled after I believe 13 weeks (which was the standard given for shows back then), and when it seemed like it was gonna be, they decided to make the show a little bit funnier (if again less so from its' 70's/80's counterpart), and it worked well enough to keep it on for 6 years. How history coulda changed if that hadn't happened lol. There's a really good documentary our Game Show Network did some years back too that might interest you, talks about the origins of which I just talked about and how the show evolved over the years, including the aforementioned Family Feud/Fortunes spin-off and the impact that had on it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHurenaBnJeAock BTW as an aside, you won't find a ton of 60's Match Game around, most of it was erased due to the cost of tape back then (when it came to game shows and also sports in those days very little was preserved, in part because of again cost and because of the belief that people wouldn't wanna see it again after it aired, how wrong that was lol) , so only a small handful of shows exist (the pilot being one I might add), so do be aware of that when seeking it out.

This is funny no strings attached and all in harmless have a good time and laugh your worries away. With your nose would be excellent at getting back at someone you don't like or hate.😆
