There is a screen on the floor that faces the guests for movie clips and whatnot. Every time the camera switched to closeup reaction, it would catch his eye and his eyes would dart back and forth. And that - I suspect - is what makes it look like it’s an uncomfortable/awkward situation. Lots of other guests check themselves when the camera is on them an readjust/recompose themselves.
