We’ve had Democritus, Hobbes, Hume, Nietzsche, Marx, Satre, Singer, etc - add Oppy to the pantheon of great atheist philosophers. Oppy is one of the (if not thee) most formidable atheist philosophers of our age. He literally has theologians and theist philosophers quaking in their boots. He’s suitably and convincingly dealt with some of the most prominent Christian theologians in debates where others have failed - Feser, Craig and Swinburne to name a few. I actually thought he annihilated Swinburne in a recent debate with him, albeit an aging Swinburne who is clearly past his prime. Also Graham Oppy is a lovely man who is so generous with his time. We’re so fortunate that we live in an age where we have these great KZbin channels and we have people like Oppy on them to just share their thoughts. His view on the role of arguments and the alternative of trading world views is so innovative. It basically undermines the entirety of natural theology in one swift swoop as the Christians have an obsession bordering on a fetish with deductive argumentation. I can’t believe I’ve only just come across this interview.

Sartre wasn't an atheist, and Oppy got annihilated quite a lot recently, by Feser and Loke, and even Kastrup. Oppy seemed like he didn’t even know what he was talking about while debating idealism

@@logans.butler285 Satre was definitely some kind of atheist. He destroyed Feser. Feser is wedded to an old school metaphysics, stemming from Aquinas, that literally no contemporary philosopher takes seriously. Loke did better but was still defeated. He doesn’t take idealism seriously because it’s a joke philosophy and is outdated. Belongs in the grave with Berkeley. Oppy reigns supreme.

20:56 I do agree that these debates and arguments will rarely change the other side's view on the topic, but when I was seriously considering my options regarding what was my position those really helped me, watching others debate. Its similar to politics, the debates and such things will move votes of those who are not decided, not those who are diehard "I will never change my view".

@41:00 he mentioned some seminal papers that address the fine tuning argument from a naturalistic world view. Do you know what paper he was referring to? Soba? I've seen papers that argue that fine tuning is an argument against divine creation which was beautiful. But I'm not sure I know what arguments are made in the paper he references.
