As I replied elsewhere, Republicans voted against the border bill because it contained extra crazy stuff they didn't agree with and a small increase in border guards wouldn't change the deliberate policy to let millions in through the entry points instead of amnesty being handled in Mexico. The fact the numbers are down now is because it is election year, they'll be back to letting in millions after the election if they win because that's what they want.

It is very arguably the case that Trump, with the help of the many, and the silence of the few Republican politicians, killed disproportionately more Republican than Democrat voters, as the Democrat voters were more inclined to listen to the best advice as it evolved. I think this is part of the reason why Joe Biden got such a comparative bump in the 2020 popular vote, even more than Hillary Clinton did in 2016, even though Clinton did win the popular vote. I expect a further decrease in Trump's, and the down-ballot Republican vote this November, as a lot of his victims did survive to vote for him in 2020 but later died, following his advice. None of the Republicans yet seem to realise the number of lives - and therefore the number of voters - that they deliberately lost.

As I replied elsewhere, Republicans voted against the border bill because it contained extra crazy stuff they didn't agree with and a small increase in border guards wouldn't change the deliberate policy to let millions in through the entry points instead of amnesty being handled in Mexico. The fact the numbers are down now is because it is election year, they'll be back to letting in millions after the election if they win because that's what they want.

We have laws to protect the southern border. Trump also wrote executive orders to strengthen those existing laws. Resident Joe did away with all of Trump's work, and relaxed existing laws, allowing 9+ million illegal aliens to enter the country. In the end, it's the Presidents job to protect our nation and its citizens.
