Artist Graham Sutherland was commissioned to record British heavy industry during World War 2. He visited the tin mines of Cornwall and also the steel works in Wales. This was official War Advisory Committee work alongside other artists in different departments - in the film we see Stanley Spencer recording shipbuilding and Henry Moore sketching in London's tube tunnels which were used as housing.
The film was made as part of an exhibition for the Penlee Gallery Cornwall which then travelled to show at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea.
