leading up to this game, the Vikings punter (Chris Kluwe) tweeted that the NFL was providing a safe environment and the unheated field at UofM was a safety hazard. Since the majority of Viking fans were excited to play outdoors in the cold again, nobody responded positively to that tweet. Then it ends a legend's career

Man, I have been watching this same interview (cut up into 3 minute chunks) for weeks now...and the thing I always think is: For a guy I have seen take a million hits - old Brett still seems to be cognitively intact. I mean, he is twice as articulate as most, if not all (certainly the Fox) of the ex jocks doing analysis on TV! I think he may have "Homer Simpson" skull syndrome....like a second helmet for a skull.

Brett would have played more seasons if Leslie Frazier hadn't benched him the following game. That was it, I think he had enough B.S. when he knows more about football than the coaches. Still had the ability to play a few more years but 2010 was a just diseased season for the Vikings after the collateral damage from the NFC chapionship game.

What if we have helmets with sensors? and after either A) a certain amount of g's a players absorbs has a max until he is pulled or B) signals hits big enough to generate damage to the brain so they can be pulled Have guys on each team that just watch over the helmet numbers. Almost like a TV with Stock numbers ticketing. Except 11 men on side and 11 on the other. Also maybe fix facemasks. Why are they still like coated steel? Maybe a material that doesnt destroy you lmaoooo Extend roster from 53 to at least 60. I say 69 jk But these guys aren't just trash, humans. They should be protected long term. We only get one brain and we really cant fix it.
@jakestine4753

Favre did a bad job articulating, but his point is that all those times he got up seeing lights/stars, most of the time his head didn't take a whack. The problem with concussions is they can and do happen when you take shots to the chest or upper body. The G-forces of sudden changes in direction cause your brain to rattle around in your head and since your brain has absolutely no feeling or sensation, it has no idea when it's been injured. Getting knocked out is your body's defense against concussions, and it actually works well when you take shots to the head. But these minute-by-minute "dizzying blows" that put stars in your eyes that all football players deal with through out every game? They're all causing minute amounts of brain damage and no amount of head protection can stop that (and in fact, it makes it worse: a player padded to the gills is much more likely to full-tilt sprint into tackles than one without, and the danger today is that full-speed play enabled largely by excessive padding and helmet tech)

Reynaldo Venturina Jr: Favre CAN still play, and he is a tough cookie. But he would not dare play again. In 2012 Jeff Fisher offered 42 year old Favre a starting QB position with the Rams. Favre turned it down because of too many concussions. Today Favre works out with high school and college athletes. At age 50 Favre throws so hard that he often breaks receivers' hands, sometimes shatters them. Look at all the QBs that could not throw at the end of their careers (P. Manning, Marino).

I can definitely relate. I had a concussion following a fall off of a 20 foot ladder. I fractured my right clavicle, left radius and ulna, ribs, L5-S1 transverse process, lacerated kidney and liver, and punctured lung. Because of the concussion I don't even remember the fall. and anything that happened shortly afterwards. All I remember is waking up in the ambulance wondering why I was laying down when I was just at work.. Then I passed out again and don't remember anything until after my surgery was over. People tell me that I was conscious the whole time. Concussions are serious business.

The physician who developed the term CTE stated that those who play football through a professional career may receive 70 thousand blows to the head.
