So, I'm 20, legal drinking age in the US is 21, and this is what makes me excited to be able to drink. Not to get drunk, but to be able to spend time and make memories with good friends while trying these delicious flavors

Beer nerdery to explain 11:25: The first beer that Matt had was a Russian Imperial Porter, while the beer Graham had was a Baltic Porter. Russian Imperial Porters are much heavier on the brown malt, chocolate malt, coffee malt, and are generally in the 9-13% ABV range. Baltic Porters tend to have less chocolate and coffee malts, and up the roasted barley, black malt, and sometimes biscuit malts, which will give it more of that roasted, burnt-bitter flavor. Personally I'm not a fan of sours, but in 4oz amounts, they are fine.

Another fantastic beerfest vlog, thank you Graham for taking the time and effort to make it! As a beer enthusiast in the UK, I have been to, helped at, and even organised some sizeable beer festivals over here and it's fascinating to compare and contrast the GBCF with those I'm more familiar with. Also, as a fan of both dark stouts/porters and sours over lighter/hoppier beers, the selection was definitely wetting my tastebuds! Might have to look into a well-timed trip to BC...

For a slightly more in depth explanation of a gruit, it's specifically a blend of herbs and spices used to add flavor and preserve beer. Since most water wasn't safe to drink in Europe most people had to brew it into beer and while in cities you could have someone else do it anyone outside a city would often make their own beers with family recipes for gruits to keep the beer as long as possible. They fell out of fashion when Germany established beer laws defining what could legally go into beer, mostly because it wasn't feasible to tax people for gruits made with wild herbs. German Beer laws helped to shape most lagers now and made hops the preservation standard for all german beer, which eventually spread to most other european nations until it just sort of became the standard.

I was hoping for another beerfest vlog! Bourbon barrel aged Russian imperial stout yeeees. I love stouts so that's right up my alley. I'm so glad I'm not the only person who describes a beer as "tasting like a tree." :D There's a local brewery here, Wild Woods Brewery, that has a porter that tastes like you're drinking a pine tree. It's great, but the pine taste is so strong it's hard to finish a whole pint. That is a nice color on the blueberry sour.

27:30 That seems like a weird tactic "We'll take a bunch of our drinks you can buy anywhere, and bring em to Beefest." makes sense "We'll also bring a brand new brew, and it'll be a Beerfest exclusive!" ok, odd choice, but sure, adds up "Why is everyone ONLY wanting to get the exclusive beer they can only get here?" . . . I . . . did.... But also, if they wanted to test to see how well it was received, like before they go make a batch of it; I feel like that entire thing would only skew the numbers: "Well the new brew sold out fast!" "Sir it was the only thing exclusive, and not something they could get elsewhere-" "Another successful venture!"

It is absolutely fine for you to not want to drink these beverages, but if you do so choose a solid number of English style Ales of multiple varieties are little to no carbonation, or you can look at things like Nitro beers, which are pressurised with nitrogen instead of the standard CO2 which is normally what upsets people (though not always). As an example, a proper Guiness tap is Nitro, though I'm unsure how true that is outside the British Isles. Left Hand Brewing's Nitro Milk Stout is delicious if that;s a thing you're after, and that's America based if that's closer to where you are in the world.

Comments and possibly G, would you have any recommendations for beer? I've tried to get into them myself, and of the few (commercial) that I've had...have been mixed in reception. Of the ones I've had I like Blue Moon beers the best and the canned beers(Stella Artois, Michelob Ultra, Sapporo) have been my least favorites.
@crowleysbentley6 жыл бұрын
(Used to work at a beer store, and have been a bartender at beer bars, but not claiming to be an expert) If you are a fan of Blue Moon, I would suggest Allagash White. It's still a nice, light, wheat ale, but a little more crafty. It's a little more complex than Blue Moon, but not a big flavor bomb. Hope you like it!
