If you live in Middle America, the South, or the Midwest, a great lab that I'd recommend is Dwayne's Photo in Parsons, Kansas. They offer a lot of different film services and are reasonably priced. I've sent my film to The Darkroom before and it was a great service, but Dwane's is just closer to where I live which reduces the time my film is spent in the mail. I also find them to be a lesser priced option than many of the other processors.

@@midwestgrain They've been pretty good to me. They've sent me all my scans within two weeks of my film arriving at their PO box. The post office has also recently been good to me. Everything I've sent to or received from Dwayne's has only ever taken two or three days to get delivered. I live in Louisiana. Though I've also sent stuff to California, and it's taken the same amount of time. I know they can be really inconsistent, but I've been really lucky with their service the past few years.

Thanks Jason, great stuff. You didn't include the Bronica GS-1 in the 6x7 group. It is priced similarly to the RB67 but has electronics (for better or worse) including a fairly accurate metered prism viewfinder, and is lighter, more like the weight of the RZ67 but much cheaper. I guess some people aren't convinced the Bronica glass is as good, although I have not done comparisons, but you mentioned the S2A in the 6x6 section so seems worth noting the GS-1 also. BTW, Flic Film in Alberta, Canada has a new developer formula called Black and White and Green, which is non-toxic for putting down the household drain. I guess it"s similar to Xtol (ie phenidone plus ascorbic acid) but is dissolved in triethanolamine not water, so it's viscous to pour but is supposed to have a shelf life longer than the proverbial shelf. I've tried it on lots of the standard B&W films and it seems about the same as HC-110. Cheers from Montreal!
@GlaciaDay
@GlaciaDay 2 жыл бұрын
Obviously he cannot mention all good stuff in a brief video. Also GS-1 is much much lighter then a RZ67 so probably the best starter 6x7 camera imo, especially for a SLR. It has more function being a new camera compares to early Pentax 6x7 with similar price.
@oudviola
@oudviola 2 жыл бұрын
@@GlaciaDay Actually I don't think the GS-1 is much lighter than the RZ67, which itself is much lighter than the RB. The RB is great I suppose if you want to go completely non-electronic.

@@GlaciaDay Indeed, it's been a while so I just checked again, my GS-1 with WLF, film back and 100mm standard lens is 1934g. But with the AE metered prism viewfinder and speed grip, which is how I tend to use it when walking around, is 2673g. That's with battery, which only a few grams though.

You forget to mention for those that are indecisive about what frame size they want, interchangeable back cameras can often shoot multiple sizes. For instance, my rb67 can shoot 6x45, 6x7, and the cursed 6x8 size. Supposedly mamiya made a )x6 back for a short time right after the launch of the camera, but no one bought them, so they stopped making it. Oh, and it uses the Graflock 2x3 standard for backs, so if you want to shoot 6x9 and 2x3 film, you can. Though, I’m not sure why you would.

A Mamiya Universal Press with a multi format back and then shoot 645, 6x6 or 6x9 whenever you feel like it. Lenses: Just the 50mm f/6.3 (31mm, 27mm, and 22mm) and the 100mm f/2.8 (62mm, 55mm, and 43mm) and you're set. Just don't try to switch formats mid-roll. Nailed it.

Other cautions: 1. Basic Patterson 115 tank can only develop 1 roll of 120 @ a time, unlike 35mm. Loading 120 in the dark is worse than 35 coz of the backing paper. 2. Some old cameras don't have a film counter, relying on the # printed on the backing paper. Problem is some films have #'s printed so faint (light gray on white)/small (8 pt font) you can barely see it. Gets even worse if there is a red filter over the film counter window.
