It's true that Sian is the best English teacher I've ever known. I have just a short question. Why do we use the verb "does" in the following sentence : "It's me that does all the work". Is this because of "that"? If I want to say about "we" instead of "me" should I write "It is we that do all the work"? Thanks to everyone who helps me with this question :)

Can we use like this mam? 1. What/All you have to do is to make a short video. What/All you have to do is making a short video. Here we emphasis verb so can we use like above i mentioned? Cos if we want to emphasis verb we should use this format right. 1. What/All you do is have to make a 5 minutes video. Here i have a doubt mam that we should use when we emphasis verb i mean "have to" comes before auxiliary verb or after auxiliary verb? What is correct? 1. All you do is have to make a video or all you have to do do is make a video?

Thank you for most helpful information but I have a question: why in "It's me that DOES all the work" you use DOES but not DO? Thank you in advance for your reply.
@sergeyltk6 жыл бұрын
Nikolai Filevskii, in my understanding, "does" is related to "that", not to "I".

I'm also a language learner, but this is how I think of this, I hope this would help. ''It's me that does all the work'' - ''me'' in this situation is used as third-person, like ''he, she, it'' so we use ''does''. You can notice how the phrase function itself: It + is/was + emphasis subject/object -> this cannot be first-person saying. Even though the person is the one who speaks the sentence, the phrase uses the third-person perspective - first-person in a sentence would be: I do all the work.

Yes, of course, you can. In fact, the use of this structure is frequently applied in newspaper articles or magazines as Sian said. If you're a writer, this tip will help you a lot. Best regards. If you have any doubt you can text me. Best regards.

Why "it was my biscuits""??? why singular? can I say then "it was two year ago that he said that" ????
@blackkzar7 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course, you can. Why not? The use of "was" in this case is applied due to the structure of the sentence. "It was Rob that ate my biscuits". The pronoun "It" is only used with the past form "was" not "were". So, you can't say "It weren't my biscuits" because it's a grammar mistake. Have you got it?
