We understand that you and many other fans of our channel are probably taking the test within the next couple months-and therefore desire more content immediately. So we regret to tell you it’s unlikely we’ll be uploading new videos for the _current_ test since the SAT will be undergoing yet another MAJOR change in 2023/2024 (the switch to digital). As such, producing videos for the current test is not the best use of our limited time and energy. (We realize our videos may not look “highly produced,” but it does take MANY hours-sometimes several days-to create, edit and upload each of them.) Furthermore, we currently do not have enough information (namely, official practice tests/questions) from College Board to create lessons and videos for the digital test, so we’re in a bit of a holding pattern for the time being.

Hello again, friend. Not exactly sure what you're asking here, but we'll take a shot. The "skeleton" of this sentence (ie, the bare bones sentence) is "The costumes captivated the audience." That's the independent clause, and it contains the subject ("costumes") and the verb/predicate ("captivated the audience"). Nestled _within_ that independent clause-in between its subject and verb-is a _dependent_ clause (more specifically, it's a relative clause) that goes from "which" to "them" and includes the comma series that needs parallelizing. This dependent clause is framed by commas, as nearly all "which" clauses must be. So the have: _Subject,_ *relative clause with comma series,* _verb/predicate._ Hope that helps.

Hi, friend. The Grammar/Writing rules tested on the DSAT include the following: *_1. Subject-verb agreement_* *_2. Pronoun agreement_* 3. Plurals and possessives (i.e., apostrophe usage) 4. Verb forms, including *_tense_* and finite/infinite forms *_5. Misplaced modifiers;_* College Board calls this "subject-modifier placement" 6. Linking & addition of clauses/phrases; College Board calls this "Boundaries," and it revolves around the use of commas (and the *_comma splice_* error), semi-colons, dashes, colons, parentheses, *_fanboys/subordinating conjunctions, relative pronouns_* & their clauses, supplemental phrases, *_fragments,_* and essential/nonessential elements. You'll also be tested (rarely) on interrogative vs. indicative mood (aka, knowing whether a sentence needs to end with a question mark or a period or even an exclamation mark) 7. Transitions (aka, linking ideas with conjunctive adverbs like however, nevertheless, in fact, therefore, furthermore, accordingly, thus, then, ...) The topics/rules in *_bold italics_* are covered in our current Grammar Rules Playlist. Eventually, we’ll create and upload videos for the rest, but for now, you'll need to seek out alternative resources for those. However, if you have questions about particular topics or even particular questions you encounter (on practice tests), we're happy to try to help when we have the time! You can see College Board's discussion of Standard English Conventions on pages 131-132 of this document: satsuite.collegeboard.org/media/pdf/assessment-framework-for-digital-sat-suite.pdf

Does Parallelism require that the verbs be in the same tense?
@UniquePrep
@UniquePrep 3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question, but it really depends on context, especially on the TIME CLUES in the sentence. It's true that, in general, if you have two or more verbs being done by the same subject, you shouldn't unnecessarily shift tenses or verb forms within the pair or series of verbs. For instance, consider this sentence: "I left my house at 7pm, climbed into my car, and driving to the airport." Obviously, that last "verb" in the series (the "driving," or the "Z" in X, Y, and Z series) should be "drove" so that its form parallelizes with the first two items (the simple past verbs "left" and "climbed"). However, there may be cases in which the context might warrant a form/tense change mid-series. Consider this sentence: "I left my house at 7pm, have arrived at the airport, & will eat after I check my bags." Or even: "I arrived at the airport 5 minutes ago & will eat after I check my bags." In those cases, each action in the series or the pair of actions happened or will happen at a different time, so a switch in tenses is warranted. On the SAT/ACT, parallelism questions involving verbs/tenses will tend to look a lot like the first example I gave you, & should therefore (hopefully) be pretty easy to deal with.

Hi, friend. The SAT no longer asks questions on Rule 14 (Double Negatives); therefore, we dropped it from the Grammar Rules playlist. It’s still available on our channel, though: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWjJfaRmptppepI. Note that the DSAT will also not test this rule. Good luck to you!

@learnit8286 We're not sure if, by "this topic," you're referring to Double Negatives or Parallelism (the video on which you commenting here). Either way, neither of those rules are specifically mentioned (by College Board/Khan) as being among those grammar rules tested on the DSAT. We can nearly guarantee you that 2X Negatives will not be tested; they were dropped nearly 8 years ago and aren't likely to return. As for Parallelism, it's _possible_ that some questions in the "Form, Structure, & Sense: Verb Forms" category _may_ resemble parallelism questions.
