This video is about the double conjunction "nicht nur, sondern auch", which connects main clauses.
Hello.
Here is the answer to the last quiz. The question was:
Which sentence is wrong?
Sentence number 3 was wrong. The verb cannot be in position 1. You have all picked the right answer. Great!
Today we are going to talk about the double conjunction "nicht nur, sondern auch".
"nicht nur, sondern auch" works a bit like "und". If you have problems, just watch the video about "und" again.
In some courses and books, the topic "double conjunctions" is dealt with in B1, but mostly teachers present it in B2.
If you are in the B1, you can take your time. It's good to understand the double conjunctions, but you do not have to use them actively yet.
If you are in B2, you need the double-conjunctions for the writing assignments in the exams, for example in Part 1 "Writing", when you need to give your opinion on a newspaper report, or a forum post, as in the new Goethe B2 exam.
Of course it is also nice to use the double conjunctions in the oral exams as well, for example in presentations.
So, here we go…

That was "nicht nur, sondern auch". This time I’ve created an extra exercise video for our lesson. In the video you will find more exercises and sample sentences.
And here comes the quiz question:
Connect the two sentences with "nicht nur, sondern auch":
"Pia spielt Gitarre". "Sie kann auch gut singen".
Tip: There are two options. You can leave the sentencs as is or you can shorten it.
As always, write your answers below the video.
And finally, I have another question. Can you give me feedback on the audio? Can you understand me well in the lessons? Or are the videos too loud or too quiet?
Thank you and see you on Saturday. Then we are going to talk about "sowohl, als auch".
