What an extravaganza! Generations of JAZZ, Dizzy and Buddy, then B.B King who never took a solo, Stanley Clarke and Ron, Petrucciani and Herbie, Joe Williams, Sarah and Mtransfer and Bobby and Diane Shur! Hat's off to whomever organized this. And hats off to Quincy Jones whom I know faught like hell to make this possible. Jazz is washing away as it lacks culture and the young people think simply improvising is jazz. In 10 years jazz will be any hybrid of pop music with jazz improv. Gone!

thank you for posting this minus the intros and adds etc.. It is awesome stuff - one of the best moments in Grammy history. Musicians with genuine skill, sincerity and boy are they swingin'. Wonderful.

I (obviously) stole it from another but I think the segment started off with BB King solo and I didn't find that version readily.

@@RazorDrummer No worries at all - I was actually meaning all the dull stuff like speeches etc. The BBK stuff is cool too as yes I've seen it elsewhere. You did a great job and I loved watching it.

the first 2/3s were just lovely. Then Sarah Vaughan was alright, then the shrieking started. Poor Joe Williams next to those howling pop twats. It was cool to see the front row, and as you looked from near to far it was just famous face after famous face watching some of the greats. Overall, B-

I'm reminded of the Zappa quote -- Jazz isn't dead, but it has a funny smell!

I never liked Frank Zappa's music, I think it's all goofy and souless, and his guitar playing was wack, too. It's also ironic that many of the musicians he used were great jazz or jazz fusion players or had the ability to be. However, the things we do know are...., Zappa ain't Mozart, he ain't Stravinksy, he ain't Hendrix, and he definitely ain't Charles Mingus.

@@skineyemin4276 Man, you can't convince me Joe's Garage is anything but a masterpiece. He was ahead of his time. How about a song like City of Tiny Lights? It's damn near perfect.

@@ryanlynch290 I could never get into Zappa, and I was heavily listening to fusion and high level pro-rock fusion. It was just not my thing. Also, he could never carry Charles Mingus' water., I mean.. if we're really going to get into the composer/ arranger discussion.

I thought that was crap. What could have been a meaningful tribute to the music, was overproduction. And all you could hear was Diane Schur screaming over everyone else. It was everything Jazz works not to be.

I don't disagree. On my social media post for this video I stated I didn't care for the vocal half. Should have edited it at 4:20 ... with all due respect to the legendary vocalists.

I don't know where Sarah Vaughan was coming from that night...listen to the lyrics she sings...it is WAY off from the real lyrics. Buddy Rich's drums are a rental job...over-produced for sure. Music is, unfortunately, forgettable.

Some excellent musicians there.... but the vocalists ruined it... sharps, flats everywhere...screeching, all trying to outdo each other.... absolutely dreadful performance.
