instead of the left stick on the controller for steering, try changing it to 'motion'... it will take a couple laps to get used to but it's so much more fun.. try it and see :)
@Theworstchannelposting2 жыл бұрын
I need to do that!
@LOOKINVERTED2 жыл бұрын
@@eL_K_Dee I can confirm that too. I'm paraplegic and a permanent wheelchair user and have always been a little frustrated that the more affordable commercial steering wheel products never seem to have the appropriate analogue levers on the wheel for throttle and brake placement (where you'd normally have the gear shifters so need an additional analogue set beside them). So since GT Sport I'd navigated to using the DualSense's motion capability for steering as an alternative. As 'eL K Dee' says it takes a bit of getting used to but once you've driven with it for a sustained period it feels pretty realistic and intuitive, far better than the tiny thumbstick which causes constant over-corrections (as he was demonstrating in this video through no fault of his own), only drawback being the lack of force feedback of course (though the haptic feedback certainly goes some way in "feeling" that car rotation - along with the adaptive triggers (which you don't get with affordable steering wheel pedals so they've something over those in that respect). Highly recommended, I'll never go back now, at least until I can afford a much more expensive setup from "SimAbility" - who.. 'makes hand controls for simulation racing gamers with disabilities who want to go beyond using gamepads but need alternatives to standard wheel-and-pedals setups' (as their advertising blurb suggests).
@eL_K_Dee2 жыл бұрын
@@LOOKINVERTED it's an inexpensive alternative to a rig and also if say you arew a casual gamer and dont just do racing and are at some moment too lazy to pull out the wheel and all, this motion steering alternative is a quick solution for more of a 'feel'.. This gyro tech has been around since the PS3.. but we barely see games use the hardware to it's fullest potential!
@LOOKINVERTED2 жыл бұрын
@@eL_K_Dee Absolutely, don't disagree really, thankfully these motion sensing controllers are becoming utilised and incorporated more & more despite them being in circulation for a while and already within a lot of basic tech. I suppose we ultimately all want choices and options don't we, solutions that cater for varying functions and abilities and that to be considered when programming. It's an exciting time for tech with these innovations in gaming (shame the world's turned to shit with all the collateral damage such as the semi-conductor shortage otherwise everyone could get involved). I'm thankful I managed to obtain a PS5, particularly with the adaptive triggers - absolutely love those, though granted you can use the motion thingamajig on PS4. The SimAbility route I mentioned was more about being one of my ultimate wish lists since until recently I couldn't enjoy racing games properly at all before now. To be fair, you're right, it's not as high up on my list as it was.

I played most of the GT series with a controller. Bought a wheel for GT5 but I was way faster with controller. I began to play GT sport at release with controller and stop playing it for a few years after finishing the solo part. A few months ago I decided to buy a g29 to play VR mode and master it before GT7's release. I mostly played time trials many hours a day and couldn't beat my controller times for almost a week. Within the next two weeks I beat all the online trophies and finally got the plat. GT has always been great with controllers and I think the haptic vibrations of the dualsense are a great addition and feel really good, but when you'll get used to the wheel you will probably have a hard time moving back to controller ;) And by the way, Gt sport's VR mode is absolutely mind blowing with a wheel! @@Lollburger88 Yeah the resolution (4K) does not change, only HDR is turned off. It will be better for video capture and for the most amount of people to see the video normally. HDR is changing how the color gets reported to the screen from the source console or PC. It will look fine if you have an HDR display since it knows how to interpret that signal. But this breaks down when you capture that output and then upload it to KZbin where you might not be watching the video on an HDR capable display. I'm very glad that finally someone is evaluating the whole experience of playing with controllers, not just comparing times. I personally prefer a smooth experience over winning. A good game should be optimized for both in my opinion.
@MM-oh3zs2 жыл бұрын
G29 is not really a proper wheel, it is more a toy, rather than anything close to real wheel providing you with plenty of feedback both on base / wheel & pedals (fanatec DD / V3 pedals / any FF wheel). I had G29 and boy, that was a trash, just some random rumbling, while now I FEEEL the car as I would almost drive it myself. If you're into sim, then definitely buy a wheel (proper), also remember GT/Forza are not a real sim, they more simcades as they won't provide you with all the feedback as other sims and some simulations of physics is just not there.

But over the weekend, I had an opportunity to play the game at my local GAME store and they had a gaming set up and they had the leaderboard for the Top10 scores. I was immediately impressed that if I just needed to apply a slight amount of braking the L2 would only go in a bit and there was that moment where my fingers were bound by muscle memory to be expecting the trigger to go in all the way but this controller is on another level. after about 30 minutes of playtime not only did I get the hang of the controller but I had the top score on the leaderboard on Autodromo Lago Maggiore centre of a time of 1:06.235 I was impressed how when I took a right corner and running over the kerbs my senses were telling me that only this side of the car is vibrating. I played the GT series since 1, I currently use a controller for GT7, all previous versions were played on a Logitech wheel. Using a wheel, you do have a better feel and more minute and refined control of a car than with a controller. With a controller, it's easier for the left thumb to make right turns than lefts. It's easier to push the stick right rather than curl your thumb over the stick to turn left. That is the hinderance of using a controller. I wish the controller had a track ball on the L3 to easily roll left and right. Hats off to controller players, you are truly skilled.

I started to play with the controller and the G923 switching back and forth, GT7 has the best controller implementation of any racing game yet, and I tried a couple on PS5 already, the pushback from the triggers is helping a ton in using just a portion of the gas or the break pedals. The additional haptic feedback in the controller itself helps a lot with “reading” the traction of the car as you literally feel if you are on the curb or about to slide.

Gran Turismo is always well balanced, so if you're only looking for pace, there's no real need to upgrade to a wheel. The main drawback to a controller from a competitive perspective is that wear your tires out much faster than on the wheel, which can be an issue with high tire wear multipliers online.

one key factor in how easy it is to use a controller is how much input lag you have at your display/monitor. the higher the input lag, the more you have to resort to 'tap tap tap'ing the left stick instead of making longer, continuous inputs. when the lag is near-zero like with one of the newer LG tv's for example, you can be much smoother with the controller. either way the wheel is obviously superior, but just throwing that out there - if you're limited to a controller (for cost reasons or space reasons or whatever the case) getting your input lag down can really help a ton.

I noticed that on the wheel, your traction control was higher than 1. If you put it at 1 or 0, you would have likely gained a lot of time as the higher traction control levels both limit your throttle input during cornering, but they also dampen your throttle input so your acceleration is a lot more sluggish. I find TCS at 1 in this game is as good or better than 0, since it doesn't interfere when you're below or on the limit, but it just steps in a tiny bit when you climb over the limit.
@stephen31642 жыл бұрын
On your last lap with the wheel, you carried more speed through the turn at 24 second mark, and were able to stay ahead of your ghost car. Without that ghost car in front of you, your driving inputs seem to indicate you were looking further down the track at your entry, apex, and exit points. When you look further down the track, you drive smoother, with less corrections, which makes you slightly faster. I think the ghost car automatically shifts your mind in to multi-car driving situation where you are looking close to the car on the track for passing opportunities than when you have an open track ahead.

You should've used Dualsense sensors to steer instead of the stick. Way better and more immersive that way.
@EeekiE Жыл бұрын
The controller has a lot of baked in assists you can't turn off and gives you a lot more stability. You can hold the stick at a fixed deflection and watch how many small micro-corrections the front wheels are making through a corner in a replay, even when the steering wheel in the cabin doesn't reflect it. The stick is more of a request of how much you want to turn, and the code behind constantly hunts for grip and makes changes to do that for you, likely faster than you could do manually with a wheel. It makes sense as it's Gran Turismo on a console, and the controller needs to be competitive.
@SteelLake2 жыл бұрын
I was struggling with the controller at first finding it hard to get a smooth full turn but then I changed the settings to where you turn/tilt the controller like a wheel to steer and have found so much more success. Have you tried that? The controller is great, I’m new to ps and ps5 and love it, its so far ahead of xbox

You have forgotten to test using the DualSense with the motion sensor, using it as if it was a wheel. I can say the Dualshock 4 controller in GT Sport is really good once you get used to the motion sensors (using it as a wheel).

Looking at how this compares to the cheaper options is definitely what I'd want to know as the Fanatec setup is pretty pricey to start out with.

Besides the consistency issue with the gamepad for obvious reasons... There is another reason beside "feeling" and "immersion" but actual advantage is in the actual races with other cars/players. You can't be as reactive to the happenings on the screen with gamepad like you can with the wheel. Wheel in game is turning slow even with highest controller sensitivity, lack of fidelity control over accel/deccel due to smaller footprint travel of the triggers, etc... All of it contributes to you being slower in actual race with gamepad compared to Wheel. Now this is not like seconds slower, but rather .100 - .300. You can't really ride behind drivers back like you can with the wheel. Overall i'm very excited and satisfied with how much better GT driving is with Dual Sense over Dual shock with receiving much more information throughout gamepad but it will never be on par with the actual wheel set, especially quality wheel set like DD pro let alone high end sets.

The dualsense had me completely shocked when i first started playing gt7. It does a great job with the immersion but again a wheel and pedal would be most logical choice for feel.

undoubtedly a wheel is quicker on more complex tracks i was unable to complete nurburgring in the gt7 world championships but did a gold first time using a g29 after numerous previous attempts with the controller best of 6th position
@De-M-oN2 жыл бұрын
@Tsukanoma Woodworks Lap times depends on game, car, track etc. Main advantage is the much better immersion and the consistency like he said on the video. Some games (like the F1 games) even give you internal assist if a controller is involved. That assist is, that the maximum you can turn in the wheel depends on the speed of the car, so that you never turn too sharp for the car. You cant turn that assist off and its really a kick in the ass for wheel drivers. For wheel drivers this assist is off.
@BOKtober2 жыл бұрын
In GT Sport playing with wheel and pedals provided greatly reduced tyre wear compared to a controller but for 1 flying lap there wasn't any difference, I feel like there is some kind of built in assistance with a controller that cant be turned off where as with a wheel and pedals you are in full control

Should of looked at average lap times as well to compare the two. I think overall the wheel and pedals had a faster average and it is smoother and better inputs. As someone only using controller, I find it very difficult to string multiple fast laps together as your hands get more of a workout using a controller.

I have gone back and forth with wheel and controller over the years… I have spent sooooo much more time with a controller that I am just flat out better with controller. I enjoyed the wheel a lot but if you don’t have the spare time to really invest in practice consider this before spending a ton of money. Only problem I had with controllers over the years is the brake feel (or lack therof) I have a harder time running without at least some amount of abs assistance on controller.

I always hated how the steering wheel in game is not in time with the tires motions when using the controller. The steering wheel feels detached, and does not react how it should. For e.g. Hands open slowly, even tho the car is already driving straight, which makes using 1. person view impossible.

I am playing on controller past 7 years over various racing games. GT7 on controller is really, really great. You can drive super smooth, tons of control over the car on and off track. The main downside is that throttle is really too sensitive and you have to drive TCS 1 at least. Now, I switched to DD Pro and so far have 4.000km with it. Not much. I am still faster on controller, but to race with a wheel is better feeling. Finally I can handle some high torque FR cars. I think, that speed will come with the experience with the wheel. so far I lack consistency, that I have/had on controller. The only issue with the wheel is, that I cannot control car off track. its like on some super slippery ice....plus rally is not that great. Windmills track, I was faster by 4sec on controller.
