On Thursday 16th December 2010 it was announced that ITV had confirmed plans to leave the Quay St studios in favour of joining the BBC at the new Media City UK complex across the water at Salford Quays. Granada's regional News and Coronation Street will move across by the end of 2012.
Sadly it means that ITV will be leaving the Quay Street studios after almost 60 years service, so on the day of the announcement (time of writing: today) Granada Reports ran a bit of a mini-tribute to all the programmes made at Quay St. Although all this has been seen before (referring to ITV50 etc) it's nice to see some old clips of Granada programmes again.
My opinion is that it's sad to see ITV leave Quay St, but reassuring that ITV will be based in the North West for the time to come, whether Regional News survives or not. Hopefully the other Quay St regulars of Jeremy Kyle, Countdown and University Challenge will move over to Salford too.
In 2013 after two and a half years since this clip ITV moved out of Quay Street into the Orange Building at MediaCity in Salford. The final broadcast from Quay Street was at 6.00pm on Saturday 23rd March 2013, a soft launch was conducted on Sunday 24th March at 6.35pm and the first full day of transmission was on Monday 25th March. After ITV News London, ITV News Granada Reports got a new style set based on the ITV News set, with a window view overlooking The Lowry and MediaCity. Like London, Granada now broadcasts in full HD.

Everyone in the Granda Reports studio here is still there today. - Tony Morris, Lucy Meacock, Andy Bonner, Mike Hall. Well, except Fred Talbot - we better not mention him.

You know Sooty & Co. (1993-1998) was filmed in the Quay Street studios in the same studio as the Rovers Return inside from Corrie!

I've really got to start reading my copy of "The Dream That Died" about this period in Granada's history, it's a wordy book and i keep putting it off!

I have noticed a snippet of an early title sequence for The Krypton Factor which I think used in 1978/79.

You wouldn't think so from a former network ITV company, i heard they had some sort of major financial in-fight in the nineties which might not have helped, but i also heard a story once (not sure if it's true) that when the Bernsteins were in charge they were reluctant of the financial cost to upgrade to colour in the late sixties.

I'm going to agree with my incorrect hearing and keep thinking that Hugh Laurie was advertising "mind-blowing sex".

I'm certain those poor presenters are extremely glad to get out of Studio 2.Penny-pinching Granada ensures that no air conditioning makes it like a sauna. For the staff conditions are poor-rather than hung lamps some are on stands on the floor so the cameramen are working directly in front of them.Audio cables laid directly across the floor so cameras are restricted.Fights in the crew room.Nothing updated since 1956 except for buying cheap equipment.Canteen with no air conditioning.Cheap G/ITV.
