On Thursday 16th December 2010 it was announced that ITV had confirmed plans to leave the Quay St studios in favour of joining the BBC at the new Media City UK complex across the water at Salford Quays. Granada's regional News and Coronation Street will move across by the end of 2012.
Sadly it means that ITV will be leaving the Quay Street studios after almost 60 years service, so on the day of the announcement (time of writing: today) Granada Reports ran a bit of a mini-tribute to all the programmes made at Quay St. Although all this has been seen before (referring to ITV50 etc) it's nice to see some old clips of Granada programmes again.
My opinion is that it's sad to see ITV leave Quay St, but reassuring that ITV will be based in the North West for the time to come, whether Regional News survives or not. Hopefully the other Quay St regulars of Jeremy Kyle, Countdown and University Challenge will move over to Salford too.
In 2013 after two and a half years since this clip ITV moved out of Quay Street into the Orange Building at MediaCity in Salford. The final broadcast from Quay Street was at 6.00pm on Saturday 23rd March 2013, a soft launch was conducted on Sunday 24th March at 6.35pm and the first full day of transmission was on Monday 25th March. After ITV News London, ITV News Granada Reports got a new style set based on the ITV News set, with a window view overlooking The Lowry and MediaCity. Like London, Granada now broadcasts in full HD.
