On the ZL1 we gapped it to .035, which was recommended online and by our local tuning shop. Since the upgrade of the cam, it is now set at .032. If you have a non-supercharged engine the recommended gap is .040 (no Mods on motor.) If you have mods on your motor I would check with a tuning shop just to make sure. Use the correct gapping tool. A feeler gauge is best when gapping iridium, not a coin-style gapper.

Did removing the strut brace mess up your alignment?
@FirstTimersChannel2 жыл бұрын
No, it didn't. The strut brace is only meant to stiffen up the chassis from flexing during cornering. It's not designed to change alignment specs.

Did it actually add some hp? Is tune required? Thinking of getting some for my ss which is full bolt ons, ported throttle body, ported intake manifold, cold air intake, E85 🤔🤔
@FirstTimersChannel3 жыл бұрын
I would say yes but I have no way to prove it. I would say about a 20 hp gain with wires and coils which I know sounds crazy, but everything just felt great. idle was super smooth and low it felt like it revved amazing. We ended up doing a few other things that opened it up, if you did an intake and a throttle body with the wires and coils you will be happy. They did a mustang on the dyno here -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnqugqKjpbB2mZI (lol I know a mustang but they show before and after dyno results) I think they picked up 20 hp with just coils and the one wire no tune. Changed the intake out and got another 15 or 16 hp again with no tune. I would say its worth doing it especially with E85. E85 fuel may give you more power, but you need to consider. Ethanol fuels in general have about 30 to 33% less combustion power, which means you have to burn more fuel for the same amount of power. Track only vehicles don't usually have to worry, but daily drivers need to be aware of this lack of fuel efficiency, so having something with better spark I think would be good for your build. We are currently looking into tuning. We just haven't figured out if we want to do a smaller pulley for the supercharger yet for higher boost. hopefully we can figure it out so we can do a dyno run soon. Hope it helps do you have an footage of your Camaro? Would love to see it. We have a Facebook here -- bit.ly/2YIEBjt if you want to post it. We really would love to see it. Again hope this helps you out.

@@FirstTimersChannel Awesome !! That's what I like to hear! I recently changed my spark plugs with ngk & also JBA spark plug wires! I'm assuming I can reuse those when I get the ignition coil? Yess, e85 burns like crazy! But it's sure worth it Wow, a smaller pulley will definitely make a difference! I would like to see a vid when you get it dyno! 💪 Unfortunately I don't have a Facebook but I do have a Instagram!
@FirstTimersChannel3 жыл бұрын
The main reason I would do the wires at the same time would be because of the near zero ohms ratings that they have vs the next which is 500 ohms which isn't bad bad at all. But having the best spark to the ngk's would be what I would look into. I would say try the wires you have with these coils. You should feel the difference either way. Here is a good link about the wires. www.ssforums.com/threads/granatelli-wires-vs-stock.38345/

Hello sir, How are the coil packs and wires holding up? I purchased a set, read of the forums don't buy you will have issues Thanks

Hey there and thanks for your question! To be honest, the owner couldn't be happier with these coil packs and zero resistance wires. The power gains can be felt and have been holding up without issues since the install. The car has more mods on it now and a tune and like I said the owner couldn't be happier with the whole setup. I mean they say tb spacers add power as well but we all know that’s a lie. So I’ll say without real data it was an expensive placebo
@FirstTimersChannel3 жыл бұрын
I can understand that. It may be just the feel of the pants but the butt dyno does feel like increased power lol. It would be nice if we had a dyno run after every mod we completed but that can get real expensive very fast! But in the end, it's the fun of modifying instead of chasing HP numbers for us.

From my knowledge of performance cars and performance ignitions, you should usually feel some difference. Newer Cars might be tougher because they are tuned from factory to burn the proper amount of air and fuel. On older cars it’s usually noticeable because of the drop in voltage by the time it gets to your distributor. (usually, pre-75 cars without electronic ignition) I would definitely check the spark plug gap to make sure you have it open a little wider for your tune and mods. A tuning shop probably can give you a good baseline to start with. The higher voltage allows for a larger spark plug gap. This results in a stronger initial flame at the start of combustion and engine torque increase. Having more voltage available to you means the voltage can bridge the plug gap faster. More energy creates a sort of snappy feel when driving. On the Camaro we worked on, before the mods started, you could feel a lag in response when pushing the gas. To get rid of the problem we swapped out the throttle body which made a big difference, but still felt like it was missing something. Once we did the Granatelli coil packs and wires, the last bit of hesitation was gone. The last reason I change my older cars and newer performance cars ignitions, is I like having the voltage available. Having a little extra voltage in the reserve for non-standard situations such as hot days (100+ degrees), low tire pressure, going up very large hills etc. I know a lot of people feel the ignition system has no effect on the vehicle’s power. In my mind, if the ignition does not match the needs of the car, it loses performance and reliability. Good technical condition of all parts and assemblies, as well as timely sparks, are the guarantee that the car will unleash its full potential on the road when it is needed. A good video to watch with dyno numbers would be this one -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ2pdqCcZpugbbc To conclude...Would this be my first upgrade for HP numbers? No, but it would be on the list for sure after making a few engine mods.

@@FirstTimersChannel I have a camaro ss 616 to the wheel na believes don't do this.
@FirstTimersChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@MrJoseeclipse123 I spoke to a race shop today to get their opinion on the matter and his recommendation was to swap out the coil packs when you, tune your car, or add a bigger TB, bigger intake or bigger cam. He claimed horsepower can be found on stock motors with swapping out coil packs and performance wires, but the improvements on a stock motor are not usually noticeable with out making other engine mods. But again, he did recommend making the change. Cool that your SS ran a dyno of 616. Would be interesting to see if you have any power loss from your stock coils and wires. On a cool day the ZL1 ran 717 to the wheels, and on a day above 100 degrees 687. Current status of the ZL1 --kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5-UloppjMysmKs
