8:58 You can spot the gacha dna in Granblue Fantasy Relink in the weapon system for sure. Lots of ways to burn time and resources to power up a sword that you might throw away at a moment's notice when the +1 comes along.

I can see why some would say it's like Monster Hunter in a way but part of me wishes it's a traditional Semi-Open JRPG with island to explore since I like the idea Granblue Fantasy have given I didn't play the Gacha (I love Monster Hunter btw so the game's structure didn't ruin my experience)

I really love this game, and wish there was more of it. I definitely do understand the complaint about the monotony and blandness of the side quests, and it did irk me a little bit, but not enough to really drag down the experience. If I have a chief complaint, though, it's just how easy the game is. Never once had to grind, except very briefly in the final chapter.

Final fantasy 7 remake and the 2 nier games are some of my favorite games of all time. Both of them have some of the worst mind numbingly bad and monotonous side quests with some of the most aggregious back tracking, of all time. Yet they are some of my favorite games. Bland side quests is a JRPG problem in general. It's rare you get a great one, even in the modern classics. This game is not a typical JRPG, it's a short story with grinding endgame as it's selling point. The point is to deliver fun combat and to give you things to grind for, that's it. At no point does it try to be super deep and take itself too serious because the point is to finish the short story and just do the end game and collect stuff.

I suspect the collecting documents part bugged out on me. I know I have completed more than the stated number of marked quests, but the counter will not go up, and now the only ones I get are harder boss fights, but only one at a time.

Man, as an adult some RPGs just have too much going on. I end up getting burnt out well before end game. I can feel this review.

Thanks for making this, I certainly feel the exact same way. I don't regret getting it on day one and it's lovely for sure... *But I swear to all things Dragalia, if I do one more Bahamut or Lucilius fight, I'm going to scream.*

the combat system and fights were fantastic. The RPG side not so much and the sigil part also not… basicly all go Damage limit+ which made customization kinda boring

The endgame wasn't endgame. Other than first time completing a couple cool fights, it was worse than the grind in shitty F2P MMOs from 2005. I found much more enjoyment in macro managing my CPU to farm everything, including Bahamut by themselves. I calculated prior how many times I'd need to do the exact same missions to max my weapons and was like nope. Played on PS5 so no trainer, but my AI afk carried me all the way, which I took as an achievement in itself. Lol It is sad though how the cool combat was essentially wasted. Could've been so easy to implement engaging endgame activities as well, but they decided to go with the cheap route. Bummer. So much wasted potential.

this was cathartic i absolutely loved the visuals/character design world building. but ghad dang was it t e d i o u s and idk some of the characters were really fun and the others were a slog and not fun to learn- it's not like a game like Monster Hunter where there are 14 weapons that are all unique and once learned are also fun to play.

Modern RPGs have become for the most an infinite list of tedious busy work. The only goal is to have you play 50 to 100 hours. Having fun ? Lol, nobody cares. Quests in Phantasy Star IV and Chrono Trigger were excellent, there were a few, they were interesting and effort was put in them. But this is the exception.

it should have been a real JRPG. not that quest nonsense. the magic died for me and it turned into a forgettable, dissapointing, button-mashing crappy crafting system experience with really bad online

I was never hyped for this game. Even when everyone was super excited for it I just never felt a connection or desire. Since it came out and everyone is singing it's praises, still don't want it, and you and a couple of others have said similar things about it. I'm glad I didn't get it.
