@afra_r that specific riff you mention from Foul Parody is what got me into GBK. Into black metal for over a decade but never listened to GBK until last year. Now one of my favourites. The drumming is a bitch to tab but a joy to listen to, Cazz's drumming style works out PHENOMENALLY on every GBK record he plays on. I like to call it "off-the-grid drumming", it's organic and honest, just the way drums should be for any kind of metal
@MrUnderhilll

@@afra_r Agreed. Its almost like a lot of modern metal bands write their drum tracks to a midi grid. takes away the soul of it.
@afra_r
@afra_r 3 ай бұрын
@@MrUnderhilll Yep. Unfortunately 99.9% of modern metal bands, even a lot of "underground" bands record essentially everything to a grid or do copious quantization. And if they don't do that, they cheat in other ways. Thankfully I never run out of cool 80s bands to check out though, from before all this bullshit was the norm

It's definitely a super fun song to play, what is it about playing barre chords that trips you up?
@goblinspy
@goblinspy Жыл бұрын
@@afra_r I just can't get all of the barred notes to ring out clearly with any consistency. Mainly the higher strings (F,A,D in this case). I have trouble fretting the power chord shape without my ring finger / pinky muting the others.
@afra_r
@afra_r Жыл бұрын
@@goblinspy If the higher strings aren't ringing out clearly that means you aren't pressing the strings down to the frets enough. It's definitely something that takes a lot of practice, since it's tricky to apply even pressure across all 6 strings just with the fleshy bit of your index finger. This album has a lot of riffs you can practice with though, like riff 2 in Tenderhearted's (this one will be especially helpful since it's arpeggiated), riff 3 in this song, and riff 1 in Lamb, just to name a few. Try playing them slowly, only moving forwards if all the strings ring out clearly. If your ring/pinky fingers are muting adjacent strings then you'll have to practice fretting the strings with the tips of your fingers and keeping your fingers as perpendicular to the fretboard as you can. There's no magic technique to instantly play it right, it's just a matter of practicing until you get it, which you definitely will

@@DeanH92 Musically it's not my style, I much prefer heavy metal influenced BM to DM. There's some moments I do like, like Manacled Freightage, Branding the Peon, Ten Lost Tribes to name a few, and obviously there's no doubt that the arrangements are done very well across the board, but generally speaking I can sum up my DM tastes just by saying "Scream Bloody Gore". Obviously that's not the prohibiting factor for me wanting to cover them, I have a line for how much ideological retardation I can tolerate for the sole purposes of posting on my YT and that line is drawn pretty much right at GBK

@@roberteeee73 I can't confirm anything since I didn't watch them record it. What I can say is that I've tabbed out almost 2000 hours worth of drum tracks by now, and I have some (albeit limited) hands-on experience with both drum machines and e-kits. About as confidently as I can say the guitars were recorded with real instruments and not a fancy MIDI controller, I can tell you neither of these albums were recorded with a drum machine.
