In 1995, Maynard made a guest appearance on "Mr Show with Bob and David." One thing led to another, and now I am listening to a classical Indian singer fronting a brass-rock cover band on constant repeat.

I'm genuinely amazed this song was written by Maynard James Keenan. He seems like the kind of person who has been doing a hell of a lot of soul searching and self reflection over the decades of being a musician. He can still make a song filled with the most eloquently distilled rage you can imagine, but he can also make this. More angry city folk should try living in the desert for a bit.

Did you ever make it past Undertow? Aenima has its angry moments, but its deeply spiritual and self actualizing moments, as well. And Lateralus is possibly the most wholesome rock album ever made. That’s 96’ and 01’.. he’s been writing this kind of stuff for a long time.

In the last few years Puscifer has come roaring up from out of nowhere to become one of my favorite things. I want to see more covers and reactions and people talking about this band. And I need the more close minded "Every second Tool is not making a new record is a waste of time and nothing else matters" fans to bugger off, and accept that what Maynard, Carina, and Mat are creating is every bit as valid, and maybe, in my opinion, connects on an even deeper level. For me. I still love Tool. It's just that I've rarely been quite as riveted, even by most of the other things I enjoy, as I was when I found Puscifer.
@SmearyRenold3 жыл бұрын
The way I’ve always seen it is that Tool speaks to my mind while Puscifer speaks to my heart. They both give me something to feel and for that I love them both. Music of this quality should not be ignored especially because of something so malleable as your opinion.

If your referring to the vocals, I believe they are actually South Asian; more specifically Indian. That said, I could be wrong in my assessment as I'm far from an expert, and it's also a possibility that these vocal styles are similar enough or cross influenced enough that the distinction is purely academic. I agree with you though, the unique style of those vocal runs really fits the song in a way I hadn't expected.

Re-listening to this song now in 2022 with goosebumps and tears in my eyes... I don't think I've ever been this hopeful, for humanity for all of us. Hopeful, but not pathetic. Hopeful, yet not passive. The global spiritual awakening is happening, slowly but surely. I have faith that you will join in soon, brother and sister, to become a part of the solution for our common absolution of all the sins that we have committed to our Mother and all its children over the centuries.
