Thank you so much for doing the detailed walk thru on the GD imagine XLS 17MKE. We are waiting for one to come into out local dealer so we Can actually walk thru it. We have been watching a lot of video on this one and yours is one of the best. By the way the attached table to the theater sitting is very easily detachable. The length is perfect for us also. Thank you, Thank you.

Detailed walk through, much appreciated. We pick up our 2023 this week and this helps me think about organization since the cabinets seem to be the same. Amazing counter space and we were happy to find one with a dinette. If we get stuck in a place were we can't use the slides for a night, my husband can sleep on the dinette and I can sleep on the couch... no big deal. I've been reading up on how to safely use a slide while it is in as to not cause it to sag over time.

@@DoesSizeMatter Our local dealership said it'd be between 10-12 weeks. But we also called Grand Design, and they said to call in a week and they'd have a better idea of the timeline. We'll be getting it just in time for winter (darn!) but hopefully we can take it for one trip before storing away until spring.

@@bsnbbq Ya we had heard it was about that long, darn! Do you feel comfortable heading to a warmer climate over the winter so you can use it more? I know things are tough right now but being in an RV really helps you to socially isolate. It would also be nice to get some use in while the warranty is ticking away, you know just in case something goes wrong. It is always good to get all of the systems up and running through the paces to make sure they are gonna keep running. Hopefully it will be sooner than later.

Thank you so much for answering my question honestly I didn’t think that I was going to get a response shame on me but I really do appreciate it and again the fact that it has not been delivered to the dealership yet being manufactured and finished manufacturing on 19 September hopefully it will have these additions that I really want especially now that I have seen them the windows really make a difference on the sides of the slide out and those cubbyholes will really be a convenience and again thank you for your response. Paul
@DoesSizeMatter

You are welcome. We make a big effort to respond to all comments. If you take the time so should we right! We know that there has been delays at almost every point in the RV building process. Sales and orders are high and manufacturers are having a hard time keeping employees safe while meeting demand and even getting parts from other companies doing the same. Then it is also tough to find transport people to get the finished units to the dealerships. So all of this is frustrating but real. Although there is still no reason that someone can't answer your questions. They know which one is yours and they know where it is in the process line or delivery and they just need to ask someone to look at it so they can send you an email. It's the little things that make good customer service. We hope you get it and it has the windows and cubby holes you dream of. Let us know how it goes.

My favorite trailer yet. Love the interior finishes & colors, size of kitchen, size of bath, and night cubbies. I would swap the dinette table mount for a Lagun mount, as it would solve all the issues mentioned. I would also remove the shelf in the tall kitchen cabinet and install a pantry slider behind the door (or integrate door front into slider if possible). Thanks for bringing us this great review on this awesome trailer!

Great review, we toured this trailer today in Ontario. One big drawback some folks might not realize is if you park in a Walmart or Cracker Barrel while traveling etiquette & rules say no slide out allowed. This made this trailer a no option for us as you can’t use the bed.

Glad you liked it and yes as we mentioned and showed in the 'Slides In' portion of the video the bed is not able to come down with the slide in, so it really depends on the type of travelling style you have as to whether this otherwise great floor plan will work for you. Thanks for watching.

We are so glad you liked it and we would love to open and close all of the slides on every rv we review but when we are on a dealership's lot these rigs do not have electric and are most often in very tight spaces where they do not allow us to operate the main systems nor do they have the resources or time to follow us around and do it for us (and we don't want them following us around anyways ;) So unfortunately, we have not been able to show that. If we get the chance on any we will do it though we know it matters. Thanks for commenting and watching.

As someone who has this unit the only things you lose with the slide in are the driver’s side drawer under the bed, tight access to the drawers and cabinet on the same side near the bed and the bed itself. Everything else is a go! If you want to use the table, it will swing around but touch the counter top. Full kitchen and bathroom use is good to go

Thank You for the nice review. Almost loved everything about this unit and then the deal killer......you can't use the murphy bed unless the slide is out ???? I am looking for a towable but if I need a slide out to sleep is a total no go ! It has to be so close dimension wise that I'm very surprised that Grand Design overlooked this. It has to be only single digit inches that this could have been done..They could have bumped a few things here and there even a few inches in increased length to make this possible? When you stop somewhere overnight for quick rests moving slides are not an option for me. Should be fully usable even if "cramped" inside. I love my Winnebago Fuse 23A for the reason that it is fully functional with the slide in. Just my opinion but rest areas, cracker barrel's, and walmarts are not places I want my slide(s) out as if you would need to leave quickly for some reason. If you just camp I understand it's probably not a big deal but I do short quick rest stops alot so for my style of driving to my destinations at night it is very important. Hopefully design people read these suggestions.
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 3 жыл бұрын
We hear you and you are absolutely right. These kinds of details make a trailer better for some types of travel styles than others. It's the cracker barrel factor for us. We stop in all of the same types of places you do and it matters for us too. For those that are going directly to their destination it's no big deal. It really is a great trailer though. OK I have a question that I am not really getting a good answer from my dealership or grand design I just ordered this very trailer 17 MKE and I have noticed on previous KZbin videos that I have seen that some of the same model same year do not have the windows on the sides of the slow down or the cubbyholes on the sides of your pillows on the Murphy bed for charging I am curious to know why which one I will get. I am hoping to find out tomorrow or Tuesday if it is delivered but I have been in suspense for a couple weeks now with no real answers on why the differences is this what I will get some thing that they started doing at a particular time I’m not getting the answers from grand design or from my dealership hopefully you can give me some insight thank you
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 3 жыл бұрын
Great question! So here is what we know. When they make design changes it has to start somewhere right? Why they don't start it at the beginning of their marketing we just can't say. They call it the same year and model but some of the changes seem to come out part way through. In our personal opinion we could rant on about this for some time because why are they calling something a 2021 when we haven't even got there yet. It is so misleading and frankly not true. We promise you the 2021 on the lot was not made in 2021 right! Car manufacturers do it too. But let me get back to the point. We have heard your exact complaint/concern before, but it seems once they move the line to something new they stick with it. So now that the windows and cubby holes for night shelves are there, which I absolutely love, they should be there going forward. Or at least that is what we expect. What is bad is that no one is answering you. That is bad customer service, shame on them for not answering your questions. Keep asking and telling them what you expect. On another note we are super excited that you are getting this trailer we loved it and it is super popular for a reason. Let us know when you get it and how it all goes. Hope we have helped. Thanks for watching.

As someone who has this trailer 2020 built in July 2019 it did not have the 3 windows in the slide, the cubbyholes in sleeping area, the 8 foot refrigerator, the little storage area under the sink, the solar prep, different drawers on the side of the bed, and the increased gross weight and it was heavier. Mine has a GVW of 5790 and weighs empty almost 4900 so it’s legal load capacity is right at 900 pounds. I’m trying to get it upped to the new weight but my dealership is less than helpful (like most stealerships) even though Grand Design is willing to do so. The only down side to the trailer is with the slide in, the bed is not available. So that requires you to get creative on how you park it in parking lots to use but has not been a problem since we have had it. It’s a great trailer for a couple and easy to drive around with!

Hi, I have the same feelings with ours that was one of the new models with the Murphy bed. Built in 7/2019. Do you have a 5795 GVW on yours? They upped that weight to well over 6000 pounds which increased the load it can carry but a lot. Also I have only a 6 cubic foot refrigerator and no solar prep from the roof which would have been nice. Also the little cubby hole under the kitchen sink would be nice. Love ours but those upgrades would just make a great thing better.

17mke or 22mle? Lighter weight is nice on the 17mke but the 22mle checks a lot of boxes. What would you pick?
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 3 жыл бұрын
Tough question because we like them both for different reasons and the choice really depends on your travel lifestyle and personal priorities. So based on what's important to us and being RV Sometimers we would choose the 22mle. We like the made up bed and the dinette. They both have good kitchens which is also a priority to us. We love the murphy bed but if we get a choice, where size, price and weight don't matter, we would go for the made up bed. Wait! Did you hear something? Are we getting one of these? Is Kory planning something to secretly surprise me??? Haha I always want one of each. 😉

We understand. Most often the number is referring to the box or house piece which is not including the hitch portion of the chassis. If you are looking for something smaller than the 21' and with a lesser GVW you might be looking more for a single axle trailer. As soon as you add the extra axel you are giving the chassis room to haul more weight and they wouldn't add the extra capacity if they weren't going to use it. Hope that helps some. Thanks for watching.

Some things of note: First, that TT uses a dual axle/leaf spring setup (old school) whereas torsion axles are better. For example, with a dual axle torsion setup, you can actually remove one tire and run on the remaining three good tires (good for a blowout or failed wheel bearing), you absolutely cannot do that with leaf springs. Torsion is more reliable too. Second, at the 3:33 mark, I see that they utilize aluminum tube framing, but they're using OSB flooring instead of plywood. OSB is cheaper and doesn't hold up to moisture as well as real plywood. Third, at the 11:28 mark, the Murphy bed is installed crooked (left side gap is wider than the right side). And, as you pointed out, you can see the edge of the mattress when it's folded up. Fourth, in the bathroom, at 21:06, not crazy about that thin plastic sheet for the shower curtain (some other campers in that size have nice glass doors). Also, at 22:52, that tiny exhaust fan is a joke (they should use MaxxAir vents). Fifth, the outside windows are not the newer frameless style so the seals are exposed to damaging UV light. Sixth, not crazy about the electric controls being above the sink. Seventh, as you pointed out at 5:48, there is no hitch receiver on the rear bumper for a bike rack, etc. But, overall, this looks like a nice travel trailer with good use of space. I gave this trailer serious consideration when I was purchasing mine, but ended up buying a different brand. Thanks for the review!
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your opinion, and we must identify these points as just your opinions only. There are many factors that go into which features are the best ones for each individual buyer therefore what one person thinks is the best may be just the opposite for someone else. Torsion axels are wonderful we agree but they do add to cost and folks have been getting around in their RVs for many many years with leaf springs and are still making wonderful memories. The OSB used is a marine grade OSB that can withstand moisture better than regular OSB and possibly even better than regular plywood but we have not seen evidence for that. The Murphy bed was not installed crooked at all. It may have had a slightly larger space to the left then the right but was installed perfectly well and functioned great. Seeing the mattress when it is folded up really is a minor issue and may or may not matter to folks, well obviously it doesn't as this is a top selling trailer. The shower curtain is a space, weight and cost savings. The fan could have been better but would be another extra cost. Frameless windows do have their pros and cons. They look nice and your point about protecting the seals is important but they also don't ventilate as well or allow you to have real light coming in with their tinting but then they are better in rain. Electric controls above the sink again insignificant to most people. If we said every trailer that had electric controls in a spot we didn't like was a bad trailer there would be no good trailers out there. haha There may be no hitch at the present but depending on the chassis a buyer may or may not be able to put one on but of course that would be extra weight and cost so it may not appeal to others. Again this is a top selling trailer so many folks are happy with it. Each of us has individual priorities, needs and wants in an RV. That's why we always say 'there is a right RV out there for everyone'. We are happy you found one that is right for you and hopefully our reviews helped you out with that. We welcome you to share your personal likes and dislikes on any of our RV reviews just please be sure to state they are just your opinion as we wouldn't want others to think thoughts that differed from your's were wrong. We appreciate the time you spend on our channel. Thanks for watching.

@@DoesSizeMatter Yes, you are correct, those are my opinions. My shortlist of absolute must-have no-compromise requirements for my new travel trailer were: short length for easy towing (less than 25') and tandem (dual) torsion bar axles. Beyond that, I was open to anything. I actually used a couple of your other reviews to narrow down my final choice. Thanks!!

@@DoesSizeMatter I ended up buying a 2021 Forest River Flagstaff 21FBRS (identical to the Rockwood 2109S) as it checks all of my boxes. Overall length is 22'4" and the GVWR is 5,700 lbs so it'll be easy to tow. It has dual torsion axles rated at 3,700 lbs each, so I won't have to worry about overloading them. Top clearance is only 10'3" (shorter than most) yet it still has a 6'7" ceiling inside. Flooring is 3/8" plywood over an aluminum frame which is what I wanted. Windows are the new frameless style. The bathroom has the MaxxAir ventilation system which will move a lot of air through the camper with the windows open. The 2021 model now includes (as standard) Goodyear Endurance tires (yes!!), a trailer hitch receiver for a bike rack, rooftop solar prep, heated tanks, Mor-Ryde EZ Lift Steps, and a porcelain toilet. It looks like Forest River is listening to its customers and is using upgraded components in their trailers now. I take delivery of mine next month.

Would rather have double-pain windows for all season camping.
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, we would too. That's one of those items that requires buyers to really decide what their priorities are and shop accordingly because those windows are going to cost more and add weight which may change what tow vehicle you need and will for effect how much cargo you can bring. With that in mind then you may want to go to a larger chassis that can handle the weight and allow you a good amount of CCC. It's all a give and take based on your personal priorities. That is what our RV Buying Tool is all about. It's about your personal priorities and which one will best for you. We can't wait to get it out to you. It is so close to being finished so watch for it. Thanks for watching

As we always say 'There's a Right RV Out There for Everyone', it's ok if this one isn't for you, but ya we had a hard time tracking it down because it is always sold. We think that people really like the size, that there is quite a bit of kitchen space for a small trailer and the Murphy bed makes it so versatile. We would prefer a dinette to the recliners ourselves. Thanks for watching

It’s underneath the trailer just in front of the axles. Very easy to get to and use. Does Not lower ground clearance in our travels (over 11,000 miles the first year) with this unit!

@@JoeJacksonGT3 Just some trim parts that needed to be put back on. There has been some caulking that needs to be redone but the warranty has ended. My dealership service department is extremely poor and can care less. We still like the trailer but not sure if another Grand Design will be in our future. The Grand Design customer service is great but they refer you to your crappy dealership and then the warranty runs out. Nothing is perfect...

Is there a slide out topper cover?
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 3 жыл бұрын
When looking at the slide-out in the video, it shows there is no topper. The space between the slide opening and the roof is small but you may be able to fit a topper in. The dealership or after market installers of toppers would be able to tell you if this space is large enough to put one on. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

With the slide in Just sleep on the sofa!😂 Also the table & support pulls out! Also the sofa under the Murphy bed I believe has a fold down armrest in the middle! Also I believe the reason there isn’t a rear bike rack attachment is because the fridge is in the rear!

Everyone wants to rave about the new colors in the RVs, i.e., the washed out look and I just don't get it! It's so colorless and so cold! Go back to lovely carmelized browns and actual colors on fabrics...PLEASE! And if the fridge is in a bad place, please redesign this so that it's in a better place. No one wants to have to remove a fridge and replace it! Think of the customer, and not about how fast to get these things made (slipshod and half-hazzardly) and put some quality thought and effort into them!
@DoesSizeMatter
@DoesSizeMatter 3 жыл бұрын
Although you are welcome to your opinion, we would have to disagree with you. Customers are demanding lighter colors which is why manufacturers are making those changes. We see your point that the decor could seem washed out but the beauty of these very neutral color palettes is that you can add whatever color you want to make it exactly what you prefer. We are still seeing the rich browns mostly in furniture or as a contrast in an island cabinet but it is still there for sure. We also think manufacturers are thinking of their customers when they move the fridge to different locations as this is what allows them to make these awesome kitchens with so much counter space and offer the buyers some choices in floor plans. In an RV there are always pros and cons. You always give something to get something else, well we guess that is life as well, but manufacturers are not treating their customers poorly they are providing choices. Just another perspective for you. Thanks for watching.

@@DoesSizeMatter Yes! I'm in a lot of camping groups, and the people have been asking for several years for manufacturers to move away from those drab browns and printed fabrics! The Epro and GeoPro are so popular due to their light colors, and people rave about the decor. Add a couple of colorful pillows and a throw, and it completely brightens the space.
