We are from Blackfoot but currently stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso TX. I always watch the years grand opening. I loved when the dancers came to our schools growing up and I absolutely miss home watching this. Everyone looks so beautiful and the drums and singers are outstanding

I love watching the powwow channel I especially have to compliment the women who are naturally beautiful and do not need false eyelashes and make up lipstick and all that stuff to be beautiful. I love you ladies so much. You make me feel so proud to be a native woman! I am Alaska native I am part Tsimshian Indian(coastal - Metlakatla AK and Alutique from the Prince William sound. I am especially happy that my now grown up children have, and are learning to speak our languages. my mothers generation was greatly discouraged from learning or speaking our language and my grandmothers generation was forbidden to speak the language. Only English was allowed to be spoken at school. If got caught speaking language, they would be severely punished And tried to make them feel severely ashamed of being native! But somehow my grandma’s both kept our languages alive! It makes me feel so good that the younger generation is very interested in keeping the culture and language is so so important to our people. Our identity must never ever be forgotten! Our children and grandchildren have an identity that they can be so very, very proud of!

Thank you for sharing. You are all awesome. I noticed one of the women was looking at her phone. Is this a thing? Have I been away so long that this is now acceptable? I am not calling anyone out, just curious. It seems to me that if one is on their phone, they are not living in the moment but are split between two worlds. I am just asking.

I love to see the pow wows. The music is beautiful and the dancing g is great. The regalia is sublime. One thing I do not agree. Politely and respectfully I don't agree with having the flag of the oppressor in Indian ceremonies.

With respect to what you’re saying and historically understanding as well… I will give you this lol… As an so called African American who is mixed with First(Native) American,Creole, and Irish… I’ve serviced proudly for 22 years US Army 1999-2022 with brethren’s and sisters from all these great tribes of USA… THE HONOR OF THEIR TRIBES AND FOR THIS COMPLEX NATION WE SERVED was some of my favorite memories of service… SO MANY FIRST(NAIVE)AMERICANS BROTHERS & SISTERS HAVE SERVED HONORABLE IN MILITARY FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, YOU HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE ANCESTORS… Also my friends would always say man you got to come and see a pow wow live… Haven’t did in person yet but the videos bring all them memories of service, talks and them showing the different chants and steps to life. P.S and the dressing that some of my friends would have in there barracks room and educate me on the meaning behind it… SO LOVE AND RESPECT!!!!

With love, admiration and respect for you and your great ancestors I am not commenting on your military service. It is your choice and you are free to decide. I spent 3 months in a federal prison in Alderson W. Virginia for the crime of protesting the bombardment, pollution and the military occupation of one of our people's lands, Vieques Puerto Rico. The white man's history in the Americas is terrible. Not all, but those on power. It is a history of genocide, theft and domination. You might sat that this was in the past. Yes it was in the past, but it continues. I hope that the songs, dances and the beautiful regalia of the First People's will live forever. We are all one.
