Can we just appreciate for a second how incredible the stage design and lighting was this year?

Last year was better, more light options.

Sorry if I get a bit technical here. They used Claypaky Sharpy X Frame lighting beams in 2022 for the entire main stage which have a lot more static movements, are less bright and have less lighting options. For example, in 2021, for the main stage they used more than 600 Claypaky Xtylos and Robe BMFL WashBeam lighting beams which have way smoother movements and are generally more reliable. In 2023 they also went with cheaper beams and yes it looked a bit plain on a lot of spots in the arena, though at least in 2023 the main stage element wasn’t completely broken. Anyway, both years don’t match with what 2021 offered, in my opinion still the best lighting setup Eurovision ever had

@@peeryoutube You make a very fair point. Personally my 2 favourite stages are Rotterdam and Liverpool. They both had fantastic lighting, LED, overall stage design and were able to fully showcase all that could be offered. The problem with the 2022 stage for me was the focus on the gimmick of a kinetic sun that resulted in the overall stage feeling rather underwhelming despite some acts still doing a fantastic job to take advantage of what was available to them. Regardless of the small details can we agree that every Eurovision held in the 2020's has been incredible in its own right and really shows why it is the greatest show on earth?

@@peeryoutube Yeah, but the setup isn't always what makes the lighting good per se. I have seen some pretty low budget concerts with limited resources have better lighting design than some of the really big stuff. It all comes down to how you manage to use the available equipment. Having the newest, fanciest, most powerful light doesn't make the experience better if used incorrectly. The Sharpy X Frames are incredible fixtures for their price and it seems like they worked perfectly for the 2022 stage. Sad that they didn't manage to get that kinetic sun working though..

I was covering the online press centre for the site I write for and I think they ended up having to run the flag parade twice so the finalists could get the timing right. Second time it was just Verka’s accordion player having the time of his life!

Big hats off to the song choice and lighting guys for this, it's so re-watchable and energetic. Would have love to experience that on the night IRL. 👏👏👏👏

I just noticed that the lights were also dancing to Verka. Well done lighting designers there haha. This was a good flag parade, especially having muted ones past couple of years with Covid restrictions. The only thing I'd say was missing would be the country announcements in Ukrainian as well as English, plus maybe native language to a la Denmark 9 years ago. The country names on the screens (in 3 languages?) would also have been cool as the screens did look a bit blank.
