No doubt Eagles played better and deserved the win. But the umpiring has truly been atrocious this season. Two 50 metre penalties resulting in goals first one on stephenson and the second on Howe can change the game. Umpires causing way too much influence on the outcome of these games, just let the boys play for gods sake

Nick Wyllie 28-20 in favour of the Pies with some ordinary inside 50 frees going the Pies way, clearly proves that the umpiring had no bearing on the result in reality. If you don't want a 50 metre penalty, don't play on assuming you had the free, the umpire clearly explained that the Pies player did not even look to see what was being directed by the umpire himself in the first one. It's noisy out there, don't rely on what you think, but what you see.

And the umpire raised a good point when he explained to Pendlebury his decision to give 50 against Stephenson. He did signal the free kick was for West Coast. It doesn’t matter if the player can hear him or not. The reason umpires have to signal is so the spectators and all players on the field know what is going on. If you can’t hear the umpire and just assume his decision without looking at his signal, you run the risk of giving away a 50. That’s always been the rules

I think we are seeing a powerhouse team that could emulate the series of premierships won by Brisbane and Hawthorn. As a supporter and member, I'm loving this ride. Perth Stadium (Optus) has made all the difference. Can't wait for Rioli and Naitanui to join our team and make us even stronger.

Collingwood supporter here, and as much as eagles deserved to win this game, the umpiring was atrocious for BOTH sides of the game. Some frees where there weren't any and some play on calls that were questionable at best. AFL needs to take a long hard look at how the umpires determine calls. I also saw horrible umpiring in the 10 or so minutes of the Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide game. Something needs to be changed.

Wow. I haven't watched footy on TV for months. I've been over in America. I've been watching highlights the past 2 rounds. And I would think the refs wouldn't be as bad. But oh my God are they worse. Not as bad as NBA refs sometimes but those 50m penalties, who calls that? The first one, the Collingwood player is going for the ball and he's not even going for the legs. That, to me, is no free kick, especially to West Coast. If anything, the West Coast player was closer to his head than anything. And I've been to a stadium filled to the rafters, how the hell do you hear a whistle when 70000 people are screaming? You don't. And the second 50 on Howe, that one wasn't as bad but still pretty horrible. West Coast took a great mark and Howe just went to stand on the mark. How's that 50?

to everyone complaining the umpires, and particularly the 50m penalties- Learn the rules. The 50 to Cripps was textbook. Clear free kick (it is a free kick as the rule currently stands, whether you agree with the rule or not is irrelevant) and the ball is not given straight back to him. That has always been 50. The 50 to Ryan is there as well. It's not as if he and Howe were tangled up in the mark, or contact was made as the mark was taken. Ryan takes a ripper mark, it is clearly paid, then Howe goes and holds him. Clear 50m penalty.

Notice that every time they make new rules to make the game safer or faster players just learn how to exploit the rule changes to their advantage. Head high tackles: the ducking, this tripping stuff:falling over like it's soccer. Just leave the game alone afl tribunal and umpire association. The players are getting to a point where they have no idea what's legal and what's not. Or maybe if they just clearly stated before each round "were going hard on this this round". The players could adjust till that rule is forgotten about then we go back to the normal game again.
