I was 17 years old when I saw the original Grand Funk Railroad at Shea Stadium in the early 1970s. I can tell by the expression on your face that you get it, Grand Funk Railroad was fun to listen to and fun to watch. You could not help but have a good time at their concerts. They gave their fans what they wanted.... great music, great musicianship, and loud volume. I have their live double album and when I want to reminisce and go back in time to when I was 17 I put the record on the turntable and crank up the volume until I rattle the windows and rearrange all of the stuff in the china cabinet.

Grand Funk Railroad was the very first concert I ever went to at age 16.Me and a friend hitch hiked 35 miles in a snow storm and bought tickets from a scalper.my parents didn't know I went.I got home at 2 am and got grounded for a month.but it was worth it.

I had two favorite bands; one American and one British. Grand Funk Railroad and Led Zeppelin. Brewer was energetic for sure, but Bonham would (and did) go for 20 or 30 minutes on his concert solos. Moon was simply a wild man with sticks. Ahh, the heyday of rock and roll!! If only we could turn back time and see it all again live on stage!

This was a real influence for me on the drums, when I got my first kit.ps I could tell Don brewer I had the 8 track tape and to let him know how great the drums sounded, had the sound of a train on this solo. The snare and Tom's and cymbals was chemistry.how bad ass it sounded on the 8 track, that was the real solo.the best.!!!!.

When they were opening for Zeppelin, Zeps manager Peter Grant had his engineers create a power outage on stage while they were playing. Because they were better and he knew it. The y were blowin Zep away, and Peter couldn't stand it. I believe it was the Shea stadium show. Peter cut their night short, what an ass. Peace!

Mark Farnum, (lead singer/Guitar and front man) is so talanted. His story is amazing! He almost died three or four times from drugs overdoses, and was saved by Jesus Christ, and has written his Biography. Such a great Band that never got the credit they deserved. Listen to these 2 songs. "Closer to Home, and I'm your captain." I forget which album, but the 2 songs sort of blend into one another. After you listen to these two songs, you'll get it. Closer to Home is so mellow, yet powerful, and almost brings you to tears. Find these 2 songs, and listen.

Mark is not with the band to these days cause the other two screwed him out of GFR co-ownership. The last time the originals played together was around 1998-1999...I was lucky enough to see that show, and they were nothing short of amazing. Mel and Don still together, but its not GFR without Mark, an amazing singer, writer and frontman. If you have a chance go see him live. Tours as Nark Farner or Mark Farner Band.

TNUC was on GFR First LP On TIme. On GFR LIVE!, It was the 2nd to last track on this Double set LP. The LP disc 1 was Side 1 and Side 4 and disc 2 was Side 2 and Side 3. This was done to enable us to flip the records over is the short time for continues play time. I would blast LIVE as high as I could without blowing my speaker apart and not damage the house. Caught in the Act was only done to complete GFR contract, but LIVE was far better tracks.

I just subscribed and wanted to share what I know about these 3 guys, they are awesome musicians, but backstabbers for what don and mel did to Mark, and continuing to do. 2 clips above my comment there's a clip "Our talk with legendary GFR front man Mark Farner". Give it a listen and you'll see what I mean. This guy was/is a diamond in the rough, to have your "friends" steal your music, kick you out of the band you wrote the music for, still tour under the name grand funk, playing HIS music, sending him cease and desist letters to not play HIS music after don lied to him about what he was signing during a night of partying. What can I say about Mark Farner?? A R&R icon, a survivor of the most brutal betrayal, an attitude of love and patriotism, a Jesus loving , part Cherokee American Indian, most of all I respect Mark Farner as a man. God Bless you Mark, I've been a fan since hearing the 1970 live album and wish you continuing health (can't believe you're 71!), happiness and continued success and for showing 99% of the selfish children in music today what's truly important in life. God Bless you... ROCK ON MARK!!!! It bothers me so much what they did to him, he's a better man than me as in 97 they played music Mark wrote before don lied to him about what he was signing, how Mark didn't tear don apart is still a mystery to me. After taking 11 minutes to listen to that interview you will know what kind of man he is. GFR were a big part of the soundtrack of my youth and there were many times rumors of getting the original 3 back together for a huge tour but don never let it happen. Mark had a son he was taking care of who was paralyzed in an accident from the neck down and the money would've helped Mark tremendously and still it never happened. A real shame and disgrace to don for screwing Mark and mel for not warning Mark what don was doing. Without Mark they're nothing but a glorified cover band, without him it will never be GFR. Jesse passed away in 2018, RIP.
