As a non-academic reader, with only a very basic knowledge of philosophy, I found this book fascinating. I had to read and reread certain passages - it was hard getting my head around the concept of the dialectic image - but the author explained the ideas with great lucidity. It's a wonderful, occasionally amusing, broad brush survey that has the authority that comes with exhaustive research.

The book sounds quite interesting. Even though I'm an academic myself and I've read some of Walter Benjamin's essays, I don't know much about The Frankfurt School (although I have a fairly good grounding in the historical context of Europe in the 1920s/30s).

I learned quite a bit from it! You would probably enjoy the sections on Benjamin especially, since they put his writings in the context of his life.
