Rules nerd notes: 30:30 - Is nobody going to Toll the Dead or other cantrip to make sure that growth in Cid's injury isn't a new starfish growing? 32:45 - RAW, a Sending Stone can cast Sending once per day. That sends up to 25 words, and then the target can reply with up to 25 words. So RAW, Torven's message was "Habsil, how's it going?" and nothing else until the next dawn. I guess B. Dave decided to play it as if these are fancy sending stones with unlimited casts, or that open a 2-way channel for some limited duration 1/day. 36:06 - I thought they were basically still in initiative, taking approximately 6-second turns. Using a healing potion RAW takes you whole action (although many people houserule it as a bonus action). But *brewing* a healing potion with an herbalism kit takes hours. (And it heals for 2d4+2 (average 7) for a basic healing potion. 2d8 (average 9) is a bit better.) Obviously if they were following normal mechanics, Cricket should have brewed a healing potion while they were travelling in the astral sea for an unknown amount of time, so she'd have it ready when needed. What went down sounded it could be flavouring the description of a Cure Wounds, which heals for 1d8+Wis with a lvl1 spell slot, average 7.5 if she has a +3 Wis. It was really well described, nice creative visuals for what happened in-world. Anyway, B. Dave just went with it, probably because she *could* have brewed a healing potion ahead of time, and it would be less fun to punish Emme for not knowing which activities take time. (And Cricket still hasn't cast any spells yet, which is really weird). So anyway, IDK if B. Dave is picturing that they actually had a few minutes of time before combat (like time to slap together a potion), in which case Bac Si could get a Prayer of Healing going (10 minute cast time) to heal up to 6 targets for 2d8+Wis(4) each. Or possibly Cricket could Healing Spirit if she has it, to heal a few people over the course of a few rounds. Or if he's just bending time for gameplay reasons, then yeah Bac Si wouldn't have time to do more healing. 43:00 - You also *hear* - the enemy ship is so close that their air envelopes overlap? I'd have thought the first round of shots with ship weapons would happen at ranges long enough for their to be vacuum between them, which doesn't carry sound. Oh, I guess it is close since he said it came out of a rift in space, and in later turns we find out it's way inside short range for ranged weapons. And air envelopes extend for about the size of the object. 45:40 - She was at 1HP when she grabbed that green thing out of Cid? Holy crap dude. I feel like Bac Si has gotten *less* wise with experience, more reckless. Or maybe she always had no grasp of tactics, and her actions just happened to be less insane in earlier episodes. If she goes down, they don't have other healers except maybe Cricket. During the time they had out of combat, a Mass Healing Word would have made sense, and/or a Cure Wounds on herself. Also, apparently the enemy ship is damn close; Spiritual Weapon only has 60ft range. Vs. Guiding Bolt at 120 ft. Or I think she said she has a light crossbow (range 80, or with disadvantage 320ft) or same for shortbow. A Heavy Crossbow is 100/400 range, or longbow 150/600. If it had closed the distance normally, Cricket could have had a chance to shoot while they were still out of range of most other things. A standard ship-mounted Ballista has range 120 (or 480 with disadvantage), hitting for 3d10 piercing. (And the ammo costs 5gp a bolt). But the nautilus has them outgunned at long range, mounting 4 ballistae (vs. 2 for the Deciduon), and a Mangonel (200 / 800 range, fires big rocks). Fortunately they're almost inside the mangonel's minimum range of 60 ft. At least the top of Cid's branches are; Bac Si is closer than the rest of the ship so it could maybe still be hit. And unfortunately they're almost to the 30 ft range of a Nautiloid's tentacles, like they got gripped with a few episodes ago while working with the vampirates (I think). 54:33 - Bac Si can cancel crits now that she's a level 6 grave cleric, if she's within 30 ft of the creature that got hit. But even cutting the damage in half wouldn't be enough to keep Torven up, and some of it probably came from fixed modifiers not dice. 55:06 - How would Torven be at 2 failed death saves? Unless there's some new optional rule I'm not aware of, a single hit that takes you below zero HP either kills you outright (if it would take you to minus your max HP), or leaves you at 0HP with no failed death saves. If he was at 8 before the crit, he's now just at 0. If he was at 0 before, a crit would count as 2 failed death saves. (But he'd have been prone, very hard to crit from ranged since attacks would be at disadvantage.) Also, I don't remember him using Second Wind, but maybe he did in one of the previous battles (dragon or at their ship.) 59:00 - She can't Hide as a bonus action without being a rogue, but she can take cover behind something like the deck railing or Cid. She won't get advantage on her next attack because the enemies haven't lost track of where she is, but they still can't shoot her without line of sight. (Unless they have AoEs that go around corners.) 59:55 - Bac Si can't cancel the crit on the ship. Ships seem to be objects, not creatures, in the spelljammer rules, and Sentinel At Death's Door only works on creatures. So I guess it's a good thing they weren't missing out on use-cases for her ability, although the reason is that they're in so much trouble that there's no saving them. But wait, if the Deciduon is part of Cid the Treant, it *could* count as a creature. I bet if Gina had said she wanted to use her Grave Cleric ability to help Cid not get hurt as badly, B. Dave would have allowed it. He lets rogues Uncanny Dodge AoE (not just attack rolls) and stuff like that. And Bac Si's friendship with Cid is well established in the RP; bending the rules to let characters achieve RP goals is generally more allowed. Of course, Sentinel at Death's Door would *just* reduce the damage to that of a normal hit, and it would still succeed at the grapple. B. Dave might have decided that a crit let them push extra far toward the void, so that might be cancelled, too? But that's a stretch.

Technical questions:. Bugsy, I believe, had sneak attack when he hit h'catha since he stealthed the round before. Or maybe I missed him fail to stealth? Also didn't everyone ready actions for when the Nautiloid appeared? Did the scene where they all fired the prepared actions get cut?
@eduardoramirez9692 жыл бұрын
It's possible that Slim's passive perception was higher than Bugsy stealth and they cut the number crunching
@Peter_Cordes2 жыл бұрын
Maybe they cut something out in the edit, because 17 damage seems high for not having sneak attack. That's similar or not far below the damage he was doing *with* sneak attack in earlier fights. And yes, he did hide; B. Dave told him to keep the number to himself and he'd ask for it later. But there was no mention of it between then and B. Dave saying he didn't have advantage. If he beat H'Katha's passive perception, he would have had advantage. Unless the range was so far that the advantage only cancelled disadvantage for a flat roll, no sneak attack with no adjacent enemy. But Bac Si was in 60 ft range to attempt Spiritual Weapon, so they're already well inside the no-disadvantage range on ballistae, longbows (150), light crossbows (80), etc. Only a hand crossbow at 30 / 120 ft range still has disadvantage (for people without the sharpshooter feat). Hmm, I wonder if Bugsy has been using Sharpshooter on earlier easier-to-hit targets to get an extra 10 damage per hit? Unfortunately for those with long-range weapons (e.g. Cricket, and the teams on the the ballistae), B. Dave had the enemy ship teleport in, coming through a rift in space, so there were no extra turns for short-ranged folks to prep and heal while the long ranged folks got some shots off at disadvantage. (600 ft max range on Cricket's longbow, 480 max on a ship ballista. 320 on Riddle's light crossbow.)

Is Brennan Lee Mulligan not coming back? I assumed Walter B Davis would just DM for one or two sessions so Brennan could DM EXU, but was Brennan a 1 and done kind of deal? I'm not complaining about Davis's DMing style or anything, this is very entertaining, but Brennan has a more wild and insane kind of style which is what I was expecting after the initial episode
@_skirdybirdy17882 жыл бұрын
I assumed as much as well, but after couple of episodes I thought they would do kind of rotating dm game, which I was very interested in seeing. Now I think Brennan was a dm in the beginning so we could see Kaiho As a pc and form an emotional connection to him before he became the spelljammer pilot that's mostly in the chair. Based on the intro I did think Brennan would come back to at least play H'catha, which would be really interesting.

From the way B Dave has moved his PC out of the way, and the way they're talking about proving Brennan exists, I suspect that was the plan, but life happened.

Why did taking 30 damage at 8 hp put Torven at 2 failed death saves? Wouldn't he just be unconscious and making death saves? Or did he have less than 30 HP to begin with?
