@@caivsivlivs This was probably filmed on some kind of broadcast DV tape, so yeah the quality is definitely really good for tape.
@daanvanremmen56223 жыл бұрын
@@trinitron384 It was indeed filmed for TV, for the Dutch show called '2 Meter Sessies', hosted by Jan-Douwe Kroeske, who was that tall. It was broadcast from 1987 to 2012 on radio and on TV for a bit shorter. If you search for it, you might be able to find some more. Sepultura to Soul Coughing, they are all up there. Check it out, the host may be a bit awkward every now and then, but they are great quality.

There's something very unusual about the keyboard riff in this song. You can hear how there are two notes one octave apart for each key he plays. One of the notes is slightly delayed so you hear them one after the other. The really cool thing is that it is the SECOND note which is in time with the rest of the band, so the keyboard player has to play each note slightly before the beat by just the right amount. That takes some skill!

That groove shift from 4/4 time to 3/4 time during the bridge at 1:40 is just heavenly. The keyboard riff contains the same notes, it's just played like a waltz during that section while the bass goes up to D. It somehow still feels natural and fits the song but creates tension before returning to that 4/4 groove. The song would have been great without that time signature shift, but that bridge elevates it to brilliance.

I remember seeing them live at Lowlands '98. The singer seemed like he wasn't all that comfortable being on stage, basically hiding behind his keyboards. Other than that, I mostly remember them playing this song, the only one that I had heard before (thank you, Kink FM).
