I'm new viewer of GrandDesings, finished watching maybe 4 episodes... and I have to say this presenter is a genius, great sense when to be funny, when to be blunt... Fantastic!

I admire how this couple handled their separation in a mature manner. We don’t know the reasons why, none of our business frankly, but it seems from the show they still care for one another and certainly have respect for each other. Whatever the reasons, I hope this man together with his children enjoy the home for many years to come.

I admire her for not leaving him in the beginning of the construction work. Instead she took on a huge and really difficult task that wasn't a part of the deal from the beginning and she did it very well! ( Still handling her other full time duties.) The building was for his benefit, not for her- so of course she left, not he. We don't know anything about their marriage. Not how he or she is to live with. So no idea taking sides? I'm sorry for the whole family.😢

Grand Designs - please offer captions. Somewhat ironic this episode discusses a topic of disability but yet you didn’t think of captions for the hearing impaired. I love your show and have for years, so please accept it as constructive feedback.

I fail to understand the angst over deleting the basement. From the start I thought that a grade level garage & entry was more sensible. Expensive to construct with the extra forms and conrete, you STILL need a grade level solution for power supply loss or malfuntion of the elevator.

I would have kept the Old Barn...Dig the Basement with Bobcats...as planned..Cast Concrete Columns under the Steel Posts, one at a Time...poor a thin, reinforced insulated Wall 6 inch ..around Garage Enclosure...And onto the existing Structure, cut Holes for Windows, Reinforce around them, get a Good welding Team..Foam Insulate it in the End...Add 6 insulation of Leaves, Hay and Lime..Build Boxes to hold it..Cover in Metal Sheets...Huge savings if you can get out of the Headspace that all must be demolished or New..when you can Do that and Go beyond your ego, it gets a lot Cheaper..If you seek Validation from 22 people..then Costs drive Up.

Wait what? A two level house was a problem, so he thought to build a three level one? Didn't an elevator fit in his existing home? All the other stuff (ramp at the door, other kitchen) could be fixed easily
@darylwilliams7883Ай бұрын
This was not well thought out. Renovating his existing house to remove the problems would have been much more cost-effective. Even including re-doing the kitchen.

If you were disabled and had the opportunity to build a home that eliminates those disabilities for you, wouldn’t you do it?
@bluesky9093Ай бұрын
@@darylwilliams7883That is a large assumption to make without knowing the limitations of the existing home. I’ve renovated a few homes, some 100 years old and there are always very costly surprises that you can’t account for until walls / ceilings are opened. I think if someone has the opportunity to build a home from scratch to meet their physical limitations, why wouldn’t you take that opportunity. I’d do the same if I were in this man’s position.
@franklaumen77Ай бұрын
@@bluesky9093 its just that, based on the initial issue I really had expected a one story house, and definitely a garage at ground floor, not in the basement

So you sell a two storey house because you can’t get upstairs, but then want to build a three storey house next door. Well that makes sense.would have been better to just modify the existing house.
@gillie-monger3394Ай бұрын
You've obviously never lived with someone with such a disability or you wouldn't talk such bollocks. If a house can be built for an able bodied person, why not one for a disabled person? Aren't they allowed the same aspirations?
