Some information on Tim's wikipedia page reads as follows, and it absolutely makes me smile "Rowett claimed that his home was burgled sometime around the 1980s, but the toy collection was untouched, leaving him feeling "obviously relieved" but "offended they hadn’t valued the toys enough to pinch them"."

Tim does it for us because he loves us and he loves puzzles. So why not solve them together
@sirknight49815 жыл бұрын
@@TheThursty100 You're half right, a solved puzzle isn't a puzzle, it's a trophy and it kind of hurts to take down trophies.
@TheThursty1005 жыл бұрын
@@sirknight4981 well, if I'm solving a Rubik's cube it's a trophy, but at this point it becomes worthless. If I mess it up again I turn the trophy into a puzzle that I can solve. And if I solve it in under a minute in front of my friends eyes who struggled with it for hours, that's a way better trophy
@sirknight49815 жыл бұрын
@@TheThursty100 Depends, with a Rubik Cube there's a reward for being able to solve them over and over. On the other hand though, there are puzzles which aren't like that, for example a Lego set or a ship in the bottle. In these examples the solved puzzle's aesthetic value is the reward and it represents hard work and accomplishment to a degree that a solved Rubik Cube doesn't.

The wooden helix at 3:22 was made on a scroll saw using a spiral blade (no, that's not a joke). A spiral blade is used because it cuts in all directions; a standard "straight" blade would bind when cutting these. The wooden dowel is advanced across the blade while being rotated. It's hard to explain in words, but the take-away is that's it's cut with a scroll saw.

It just goes to show that you don't need computers to have hours of fun. I particularly liked the ball puzzle; I'm sure when my niece was a toddler, she had something similar in her toybox, but it was brightly coloured plastic and wasn't that difficult to reconstruct, almost as easy as solving a Rubik Cube.

That little bear toy was actually a russian take on Winnie the Pooh. The cartoon shorts about this version had only 3 episodes, but that was enough for them to become legendary in Russia. He didn't get popularity outside, because he was simply outshined by the Disney version of the character.
