As some one who professionally twists grammar to its limits, that is not how I read it at all. I read it as an explanation of how devil fruits work is by enabling a point mutation within some one, allowing them to push beyond the realm of human standard and into the realm of what was formerly imagination. (Of course my brain auto corrected a bit to insert that you have to eat the specific fruit of the point mutation you're after. And additionally that they are obviously scientifically manufactured, with the context of just the past few issues of Vegapunk speaking.)

I viewed Sentomaru getting KOd by Lucci as much more of a statement on Lucci's poise that Sentomaru's defense. Sentomaru and Luffy dropped their guard to have a chat, and Lucci was right there to take full advantage of that slip up. Luffy could easily have seen the future and stopped it, but he didn't. I wonder if Gear 5 will actually have a drawback of disrupting Luffy's observation haki because he's so carefree. It could make for a reason for him not to use Gear 5 as a default, and also an avenue where he can still grow and master it later on.

My favorite part of the chapter is Ussop’s reaction to the truth of the Gum-Gum fruit. He (rightfully) doesn’t trust a random old man who just walked into the room over his own captain shouting “Gum-Gum ____!” around three to five times an episode, and calls him out on it. I can’t wait until the crew tell Luffy the truth they learned from Vegapunk, only for him to have the same dismissive reaction like “Shanks said it was the gum-gum fruit, so it’s the gum-gum fruit. Nothing more than that.”

Now I'm curious about what is Chopper's DF is. We all know it's a human human fruits (hito hito no mi). But what model it is? Sengoku and Luffy also has the same fruit, but they clearly have a sub type. The Buddha statue for Sengoku and Sun God Nikka for Luffy. Most zoan fruits work like that too. Like how Lucci's fruit is Cat Cat fruit but it's sub model is Leopard.What about Chopper? What model his Human fruit is? This might be the main factor of his awakening.

The reasons presented in this chapter for not attacking an emperor/treading carefully before doing so, further highlight why Kid & Law are not emperors: Emperors have the influence and following, such that attacking them could lead to a war, Kid and Law simply do not have that. The biggest thing for me when it comes to this chapter is what Dr. Vegapunk says about Devil Fruits. At first I thought we were actually going to get an explanation of what Devil Fruits really are, but it turns out that Vegapunk is merely presenting a theory of what he believes to be the true nature of Devil Fruits. This gives me the impression that even Dr. Vegapunk doesn't truly know what Devil Fruits are, though he does seem to know more than most people to give this kind of theory. The way he describes them as humanity's future dreams and possibilities seems to indirectly confirm that Devil Fruits are man-made; if I had to guess, the Great Kingdom from the Void Century is probably involved, given how technologically advanced it's said to have been. It also helps make some sense for how Dr. Vegapunk is able to recreate them, since they aren't naturally occurring phenomenon but rather sufficiently advanced technology that's beyond the understand of most people within the One Piece world. I'm still eager to learn more about Devil Fruits, and specifically why the rules for them are they way they are, not just the whole "powerless in water" thing, but why there can be only one Devil Fruit power available at a time (at least until Vegapunk managed to recreate them for the Seraphim) and why normally people can only have one Devil Fruit power. Maybe once we learn about the Void Century and the Great Kingdom, we'll learn the full truth behind Devil Fruits. I also find it fascinating that, after seeing what Awakened Zoan Devil Fruit users looked like in Impel Down, Rob Lucci's Awakened form looks... well, less goofy for one. The remark that Awakened Zoan DF users then to have their mind taken over by the animalistic nature of their DFs here does make for a handy explanation for why Lucci looks different in comparison, though what really has me intrigued is that black cloud/smoke thing around him. Or is that just fur? Hard to tell, but it reminds me of the clouds surrounding Luffy's Nika form, so that makes me wonder if all Awakened Zoans who remain in control of their DF have that cloud thing... The CP0 guys talking about whether or not to engage with Luffy now that he's an Emperor of the Sea is fascinating. It's really going to be hard for me to adjust to Luffy being treated like this. They justify it saying that all Emperor's have big operations beneath them so messing with one could lead to war, though I wonder if the Grand Fleet is big or powerful enough to go to war with the World Government just because a few Government agents decided to pick a fight with Luffy (or the other way around). Then again, the World Government doesn't know the full extent of Luffy's reach and power, so while we know Luffy and his crew are a relatively small but powerful group of individuals who happen to have a legion of followers who devoted themselves to Luffy, whether he liked it or not, it's possible the World Government thinks there might be bigger ramifications if they choose to directly engage with Luffy. Which, who knows, maybe there are? Who even knows how things will play out from here... Especially with Kizaru coming, he's a bit of a wild card here, since he just seems to follow orders and is pretty confused about things otherwise, but he also seems to have a connection to Sentomaru so how will he react to Sentomaru apparently being killed by Lucci? Things are about to get really crazy here. I actually didn't think about it, but yeah, if Luffy can turn into Gear 5 at any time, there really is no reason to bother with Gears 2-4. It kind of sucks, and "abandoning old powers and abilities the minute characters gain new ones" is one of those Shonen tropes that I really don't like, but at the very least Gear 5 is a very fun transformation that I can totally get down with going forward.

Even though Lucci got a massive power up I doubt Luffy gonna have that big of a problem with him. Sure Lucci is hella strong but not Luffy strong. I think that the real problem is gonna be Kizaru. This made me think about the ending of the marine ford arc. Shanks showed up and proclaimed that everyone who continues fighting has to fight him. Since Shanks was an emperor would the marines have needed a permission from the Gorosei to attack him? Was that part of the reason why Sengoku decided to end the conflict?

The idea of the devil fruits willing themselves into existence isn’t a first for oda, in fact he did this in one piece strong world where those Stange inlander people that lived in that village wished that they could fly. Then grew wings to fly away. It’s been set up way before that if people willed it so it will happen. This shows that oda has planned and thought everything out. Same with gear 5th it would explain why before. even pre time skip, characters would act cartoony around luffy, even during eating scenes where characters would bloat up like a ballon like luffy does despite not being made of rubber.

this is by far the best take on the devil fruit explanation ive seen so far on yt. i think Oda is just having fun with it and not wanting to fully reveal everything just yet, and it could be that he wants vegapunk to discover the one piece along with the strawhats so i don't think he dies or is captured here, maybe eventually but for now it could be that he tags along for a while and he has his own journey where he discovers the true origins of the devil fruits since he himself isn't 100% sure even after recreating a bunch of them for the government.

I think each of the five elder star are far above or at least equal to the likes of Kaido. Being the secret immortal royal guard of Im who helped slay the last JoyBoy. I mean come on the one is literally carrying a sword these aren't your average inbred celestial dragons. Imagine One Piece is over everything seems won when these five show up and start dominating Peak Gear 5 Luffy. Luffy has to face five "yonko level" foes simultaneously with Im as the wildcard

The chapter was great yet again! As much as I want to believe that Luffy's DF wasn't the only one that had its name changed by the government, should we really come to the conclusion that Lucci's newly revealed form is also a "Legendary" Zoan (which in my opinion is a completely different class of Zoan & more powerful than Mythical)? Now I don't know if Luffy & the others will fight Kizaru before they could leave with Vegapunk, Bonney, and whoever will tag along with them? But if they do, will the SH have at least a slightly better chance in defeating Kizaru than before, or a 3rd party (such as Kuma, Dragon, or whoever follows him) will show up to save the SH & the people of Egghead island by any means? If the other SH saw Sentomaru being harmed, wouldn't they "thank" Lucci for that since he was a part of their trauma at Sabody? Well I don't know about you, but what do you think?

I had a thought, maybe the normal zoans just become huge, but the other classes do something different. With the carnivores becoming more animalistic and demonic and the ancients and mythicals getting their own special treatment (cause it's kinda hard to argue that the phoenix awakening should follow the same rules as the dragon awakening).

Most likely we would get story more chaotic, Luffy vs Lucci, Strawhats vs CP0, Kizaru and Kuma showing up, but not forget about Teach chasing Law, maybe we going to have a second Yonko showing up soon. (Not sure how close they are to this Island.)

Luffy isn’t taking the fight seriously because he’s not use advanced Conquerors Haki (fists are touching Lucci). This fight is also Oda telling people that Luffy can use Gear 5 whenever he wants and to show the form to his crew and vegapunk for lore and plot purposes. If Luffy used advanced Conquerors then Lucci would be in the dirt already.

Agreed. Now that Lucci seems to have taken command of the Seraphims, it looks like Luffy might be a bit more motivated to unleash his Advanced Haki techniques.

Im pretty sure theres a quite significant energy drain that comes with gear 5th, seeing as luffy had to reactivate it in the middle of the kaido fight due to loosing energy. Although it might only take affect after he powers down. Basically meaning luffy can end up using the form for too long and not realize until the fights over

maybe its just me, but upon first seeing kaido's hybrid form i thought of lucci. and now upon seeing lucci's new and improved hybrid form, i thought of kaido. also i tried to consider the implication of the floating cloud/flames around the shoulders. but honestly at this point i think its simply just an aesthetic choice that oda likes to draw.

The cloud veil on Lucci threw me aback, why does he have that? Previously it's only been shown on mythical type Zoans, not regular ones. He should look like the jailers tbh, did Oda actually create a huge in-world inconsistency for the sole purpose of Lucci looking cooler?

It’s fur stylized to look like clouds. Awakening for zoans is a powerful final form with hyper healing and durability. It doesn’t really matter what that form takes. Not only that, but Zoan’s never had a defined set of rules in terms of what their form consistency’s were so long as it’s human / hybrid / animal. The only confirmed awakened mythical is just Luffy’s. It’s not a huge inconsistency if it was never consistent on how a zoan would look, grow, or shrink when transformed in the first place.

It's probably because the jailers though awakened does not have full control of themselves. Even stated in the previous chapter that once a zoan awaked it tries to control the mind of the user. Compare to luffy and lucci who awakened without losing their mind if makes perfect sense that a fully awakened zoan will have their cloud veil. Also there is a theory that kaido not fully awaked his given the lack of the cloud veil on his part, maybe its intended so that when momo awakened his it will show will a veil aswell.

Vegapunk Shaka literally explained that Lucci and Luffy's case is different from other awakened zoans. It isn't really an inconsistency if it is adressed in the story

Yes probably at laughtale it tells them to laugh in a specific way to complete it, which they all tried to , but couldn’t do it and realized that the only way it’s possible is when someone with the awakened nika fruit do it. Like how luffy’s always laughing while awakened.

Kizaru coming opens so many possible outcomes. We don't know to much about his way of justice. And he clearly is the most vegapunk science involved admiral. His nephew is fighting against cp0 and kuma is on his way. So a fight against kizaru seems rather unlikely. But if he decides to fight he will face counter technology and a crew more powerful then ever and not willing to step back a second time. Those chapters latly are insane.
