It’s the sheer quality in every detail in this remarkable building that emphasises how poor modern buildings are by comparison. Architects, in general, have the lost the art of fine detail thanks to the dogma of so-called “modernism” which eschews such things.

In November 2011, the hotel was bought by the State General Reserve Fund of Oman.
