I made my green beans like this for Easter dinner... I also added 2 pieces of fat from the ham. These beans turned out AMAZING! Used 3 28oz cans of the big Italian green beans (flat looking) 6 slices cut up bacon & 3 tables spins sugar. The beans was the Talk of the dinner. Also made your cowboy beans. So so good. I said countryboy cooking with Marshall was at our Easter dinner 😄.

Yes it works. I dice some onion also. Everything you say "everybody" reminds me of your mama. Such a sweet lady.

If you don't want to add bacon, use a little oil (vegetable or light olive oil). It's also good with brown sugar instead of white. The reason you want to cook the water out is that it caramelizes right at the end--but watch it closely because it can burn at that point!

I use brown sugar also!!

I saw a recipe the other day cooking just like your recipe with the green beans onions the bacon potatoes and added sausage, sliced kielbasa sausage. The only thing I have to do is not add salt the bacon and sausage add enough to it. Absolutely delicious.

My mother does her green beans very very similar. There’s only two differences… She fries her bacon first in the pan until it’s almost done. Then she dumps in her green beans with the liquid just like you do. Then she cooks them pretty hard down to almost no liquid just like you do. However she does not add sugar. And her green beans are delicious. I am going to tell her about this so she can add the sugar next time. I want to try it.

The one thing you need to do is put the bacon in the pan and cook the fat out of it but leave in the pan then pour the beans and sugar in the hot pan the flavor from the bacon will be better the liquid in the hot pan will cause the Goodie to release from the bottom of the pan then let cook like you said

I cut up potatoes and put in my green beans. I cook them with the water from the can as well as you did here with bacon grease. It only takes 25 minutes for the water to evaporate and the potatoes are done. I miss your mama being on here. I know that she's in a better place and she is free from pain.
