The UK Cancer Society says there's not enough evidence from good studies that charred food is carcinogenic, but I would rather throw away burnt food away if I don't like the taste, and limit my consumption of charred food from the grill.

Don’t add oil to your pasta water if you are going to use a sauce in the final dish. The oil prevents the sauce from sticking to the pasta.
