One opening where I am always learning defense is the Caro Kann. Its a solid opening choice, but you have to know your defense to play the opening well. Sometimes I feel I am being attacked from all sides, but the computer shows I am up; because if you can hold off the attack especially in the beginning, you can end up with a better pawn structure and piece placement.

I learned defense when I was reviewing Bobby Fisher vs Spassky matches and Karpov's matches. By locking their active bishops and their pieces (knights, Queen, etc) you give them pressure. A good defense is hard to deal with

I did not see Kh1 in the first game. Wow. Must be a psychological thing. I'm no Flohr, but I think I can humbly say I was once a strong club/tournament player and should certainly be strong enough to see that simple defensive move. Great lecture, as usual, Maurice.
