Using UV to purify water in a clear bottle is a good one. FYI- UV lamps are used in some water treatment plants instead of chlorine to make water to drink.

Vaseline is great for skin dryness including nasal care. Also as a fire 🔥 starter: rub on damp wood and it forces the moisture out than allows the lighting with a match.

15:53 unless you know what you’re doing when using indigenous cordage once the stuff gets wet it loosens and your raft becomes a pile of logs. Unless you have manufactured cordage it’s better to make a ginormous bundle, lash it with juniper root or plant vines then ride it native style kinda like a horse. Legs in the water. This isn’t a good idea in predatory waters. Generally speaking in survival situations it’s best to avoid unnecessary water hazards.

for BURNS there is no better medicine than the Aloe plant. Rub the gelatinous inner part over a burn. This will remove ALL pain from the burn and allow it to heal faster and better. Truly remarkable how well it works!!!. Aloe can be found in grocery stores and Asian food markets.

Aloe is not hard to keep. Get a healthy plant and make sure it is in a clay pot that is not painted or finished inside. They like the porous rough clay, I think because the clay will hold water and stay cool. A very common mistake is people think Aloes like full hot sun, they don't. They like shade most of the day. Mine are rarely in full sun and if they are its not for long, minutes. Water it once a month, if you forget it will be ok for quite some time. It likes about 75 ° best, or hotter, but not in the sun. Make sure the pot is big enough for healthy roots. Use rocks in the bottom of the pot, and some good veggie and succulent soil mixes. Replant every 3 years or so with fresh soil for good plant food. I started with 1 plant and the second time I transplanted my mother plant I had to separate out 25 plants from its pot. I have had it 35 year and got hundreds of starts from it, which I give to friends because everyone should have an Aloe. It is also a true medicinal Aloe plant. Not all of them are. Some never bloom , some bloom on occasion, the conditions need to be just right. A medicinal Aloe if it does bloom has a large burgundy/ reddish pistol flower. Mine has only bloomed one time in all those years, yet I get massive amounts of starts from it. It is a magical plant and the only house plant I have ever been able to keep alive. I love my Aloes. Like you all my other plants died, I think because I never remembered to water them. But thats ok, Aloes don't need that much water. In fact I found out they are quite easy to drown, so be careful you don't give them too much water. And the rocks below the soil are important. Not huge ones and just a layer on the bottom, but they have to be there so you don't drown your plant. You can do this! Become an Aloe grower. Get the right Aloe plant for medicine and I promise you will never regret it. They also are not huge plants. If you keep it in your bathroom you might never have to water it if its in they right clay pot. You will love it!

13:27 two of the easiest indigenous fish hooks to craft are from either thorny bushes (for a traditional hook, the thorn being the business end) or a piece of chipped bone for a gut hook. Gout hooks look like a tiny spindle with a divot carved around the middle circumference for a knot. The entire spiky spindle travels vertically down the fish’s throat then turns sideways. That’s how many natives caught all their fish in North America

That's not true. Miss doesn't ALWAYS grow in the north side, but much of it does. It grows on rocks as well. Best to not look at just one or two samples. Look at multiple samples to get a general idea. To say it never works is hogwash.

Much of this is very good information. Pine sap is one. However the moss on a tree for direction can be very dangerous. If you don't know north, do not rely on moss. Learn a more accurate way. Best of all keep a quality compass and a back up. In anything seek out quality items. Cheep may do well. Then again it may not. Your life depends on your choices.

Sand paper to ignite safety matches can work, but is not as reliable as the striking paper that coems with safety matches. Unlike strike-anywhere matches, safety match strike paper includes red phosphorus in the strike paper. The friction converts this to white phosphorus to help ignite the safety match. Striking paper can be purchased separately so wjy bother with sand paper? Glue strike paper inside instead of sand paper or just switch to strike-anywhere matches. Or, just carry a Bic, yank the child safety band off and use that. Pine sap is the foundatuon of a great glue but the video kissed a lot. Don't let the sap boil or it'll become brittle. You also need to add a small amount of charcoal, or dry, pulverized droppings from a rabbit, rat, deer, etc. This stabilizes the glue. Don't add too much or the glue will get brittle. The tips for finding dry fuel for a fire in the rain are beneficial for someone without a knife or axe/hatchet. If you have a cutting tool though, skip the search and split open branches to get to yhe dry inner wood. The duct tape is 100% on target. We lived off the terrain with that and paracord. They did kiss cordage in the video. Get use to carrying 2 or more hanks of paracord at least 6' long. They're very handy in daily life too, not just for survival. I won't use the "solar purification" method. Boil it. Evennif you only have a plastic bottle, you can still boil water. Tie a hanger to the bottle to hold it above and out of the flame. The water inside max's out at 212° so the plastic will be ok if you keep flame off if it.

Used shotgun shells filled with strike matches ,put one over the other filled with stick matches, then cover both shells in melted wax to seal out water, from rain,, to falling in water, the matches will stay dry, and usable especially when hypothermia is a big consideration, fire 🔥 is heat, and a life saver in cold weather or rainy conditions, fire 🔥 is key for surviving 👌

5:18 if you notice, those matches in this jar are "strike anywhere" matches, this hack will not work if your matches are not "strike anywhere" matches. The way to tell is if it has a different colored tip on the top of it, in this case, the tip is white. Sandpaper does not contain the necessary phosphorus to make the match light if it's a regular match. Edit: if your Striker is wore out on your regular matches, you can get the match to light if you use a magnifying glass and the Sun

Bee stings, wasp stings, or anything similar. Water and dirt, make a mud paste, put over top of stung area, do not disturb the mud for 5 minutes. Let your body heat naturally dry the mud, let the dry mud naturally flake and crumble off the wound. It’ll give immediate relief once mud is applied, it’ll draw out the stinger that remains in flesh. Swelling is the bodies way of protecting the affected area, stings are known to swell. Once the mud dries, no swelling will remain. I don’t recommend mud in the throat, should one get stung by a wasp in a drink.

1:30 .. I’m kinda thinking that if I have a potato, I’m going to eat it.. I wouldn’t think any one potato can generate enough charge to power anything I’d really need THAT bad 🤔 If I HAVE a potato of all things, I will probably have quite a few other pieces of gear .. .. if I’m traveling “light” and low on equipment, I’d probably have freeze dried food or something along those lines, not a heavy lump of an uncooked potato that will require a lot more fire/time/effort to cook.. 🤷‍♀️

If you run out of water put a pebble in your mouth, I use to have a 7 foot stick for walking at night to tap in front of me to hear or run off any rattlesnakes , have a mirror to single your friends at a distance or chopper for rescue, set up a snare with fishing line making a round lupe so when they Move down a path and go through the lupe it will draw down on them and catch them, put string with cans with pebbles in them to put a perimeter around your camp site to hear any animals coming around your tent, eat garlic if you get sick, I almost walked into a bear once, almost got bit by rattlesnakes meny times, watch the birds they fly towards water, leave your hood up at night to keep the rats from getting into your moter and eating the rubber off your engine wires, wear boots and wrap newspaper around your legs for snake protection , Cimmion and garlic spray for bugs, meny tools you need to carry you can also look for gold and gemstones ,

18:32 BOLLOCKS! Coffee is a major diuretic. That’s why survival kits generally come with tea bags in lieu of anything to do with coffee. If you are already in water austerity do not introduce coffee or energy drinks into your system. Encourage your belly to hold onto its water storage as long as possible. To prevent caffeine withdrawal headaches carry green tea extract caffeine tablets in your survival kits. Just don’t forget the Benadryl so you can sleep too 😹

The advice you give with edible plants is rather dangerous. There are sweet berries that can kill you, and bitter plants you can eat. People really should study what they want to eat in their own area before trying something. There are also a lot of look alikes that are very different, one could kill you, the other one can heal you. It is a study, since we didn't learn from our ancestors what is good for us and what is not. Unfortunate treasure of knowledge that got lost with that.

Grandpa also said rub dirt in a wound. That can cause tetanus. Not saying he wasn't smart. Just saying we know better now.

Anyone here for the tips in comment? I carry a couple of safety pins in the waistband of every jacket I own. I have actually caught fish on them with a string and a worm.

If you've gone to the trouble to carry a galvanised nail a copper coin, wire and a potato, wouldn't it be easier to carry a spare battery.🥔🪙 Or 🔋

I think you have a great idea for a Channel, unfortunately your content is so repetitive, it all tends to just get jumbled together and makes this old boy, (very near 79), feel like he is listening to his own old grandpa telling the same damn story over and over again. Sorry - I have to say good plan, poor execution. Each video would do OK standing on its own - but the channel is too repetitive for me to follow any longer. Please feel free to delete this post but I do hope you listened to both the complaint and can find the obvious fix. Dave

A lot of this is very bad advice. No mention of ticks which are a major risk in the outdoors. So many wrong things here - I suggest you go elsewhere than this particular Grandpa if you want to survive out there. Regards to all.
