Another one of my favorites. Very Underated episode. Sets up a whole lot of plot in the upcoming seasons. Actually come to think about it pretty much every episode from here on out can be tied back to this.

One of the biggest game changers of the show since they brought in Angels. The men of letters if hunters are soldiers on the frontline then the MOL are the intel officers. They also introduce the Knights of Hell one of the high tier demons. But they also introduce Henry, John’s dad. Who, like John, focused more on his work with the MOL and neglected his kid. So while Henry was mad John became a lowly hunter Dean despite his issues with his dad still defends John for at least helping people instead of adhering to some order’s policies. Sad as Henry died unable to help John he at least did right saving his grandsons.

@@nightwingman666 He traveled through time to protect the order and because his life was in literal danger he had full intention of coming back and he immediately tried to when he found out he didn't make it back. Also, him disliking hunters because they're ignorant is valid we have no idea what hunters were like in his day nonetheless it has nothing to do with neglect.

Yessss, so excited!! Now we're starting to get into some of my favorite parts of the series, the gates have opened and I am so ready :D Love this episode, as well as the rest of the series that it leads into. We got through some rough seasons, but this is why I love season 8 and onwards.

Dean's argument with his grandfather holds no water because the arc angel Gabriel already told them that they were meant to exist because of the then apocalypse that was supposed to take place but the boys stopped. So that also meant they would have become hunters to protect innocents because everything that started John on his hunter journey had to do with being with Mary. He decided to follow in their footsteps to help him track down Azazel. Maybe John would have become a member of men of letters or perhaps his stubbornness would have him still go to the marines. The draft could have given him no choice but to serve...and then he met Mary.

There are many spells that don't require you to be a witch to cast. Even the hunters in the show can use magic that draws it's power from just the spell components and words, other spells require a different or additional type of power that can be taken directly from a powerful caster, or it must be drawn through the caster (commonly a witch) by making a bargain with a more powerful being such as a demon (like Ruby did when she was human), a leprechaun, or a fairy, as we have seen so far in canon. This will all become more relevant as the show goes on and we are introduced to more creatures and magic users.

Funny how Dean and Sam are a part of two sides. I get what Sam meant, by what Cupid said about bloodlines, but damn it is sad that he saved them but never had a chance to bond with them unlike there other grandpa who used them and turned them over to Crowley and betrayed them. But Henry didn't he respected the boys. It would have been nice to see the boy's get to know a real grandparent accept them.
