I find it so sad that so many of these incredible skills are being lost. My next door neighbour as a lad was a carpenter, I was completely absorbed watching him build a shed with scrap wood from scratch that mimicked the Dutch style house he lived in. I guess the reality is that a lot of these skills were learnt out of necessity, but it doesn't take anything away from the skill and ingenuity of these wise "old timers". We have much to learn from them, not just the practical skills, but also life and attitude skills.
@jacksonlee1713 жыл бұрын
I have read the interview of this adorable grandpa, and he told the story of his life. He said he began to learn the skills when he was 11, because his father’s unexpected death forced him to work as apprentice, and several years later he learnt the carpentry and started to support the whole family. In his old village in Shandong of 1,500 residents, there were 8-9 carpenters. They helped villagers built furniture, houses and they were quite respected and could make a living. Coming into the 2000s, most villagers would prefer to buy furnitures made in factory and there were less and less work left for those skilled carpenters. The old man’s son was married in Guangxi province, the southwestern province bordering Vietnam and had a son, so he asked the old man to come to live with them. While looking after this grandson, the old man found he could pick up his skills again in the mountains and his grandson certainly loved those gadgets. That was how it all started. His son helped making this videos. The old man was quite calm and modest himself in the interview and he said he was only mediocre among those carpenters in his village. Amazing skills and I wish his craftsmanship could pass down to his son and grandson. By the way, his son also learnt the skill from the old man, though not good enough, but there is still hope that this will pass on

I can't get enough of this. I like to put him on and work in my garden. It's ....... calming. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE VIDEOS! I live in the U.S. and.......... well, alot of people have lost their minds. It's extremely tense. Terribly frightening to say the least. Tomorrow is the 4th of July. Our Nation's most proud holiday. It means everything to us. We have been told not to celebrate this year. There are riots everywhere. Almost every major city. People are killing each other over the color of their skin. It's INSANE! And every day it only gets worse. Some say we are IN a Civil War. I believe that. Sides have already been chosen. THAT'S FOR DAMN SURE. BULLETS HAVE ALREADY FLOWN. Yeah, I'd call that a Civil War. So, it's so nice to watch these awesome videos and just forget for a while. THANK YOU. If anyone out there cares...... please pray for our country. We need it. ✌🏻✌

@meichan95723 жыл бұрын
@@dammitman1664 You mean those ancient coffins on the cliffs? Some of the coffins on the cliffs are 2,000 or 3,000 years old. An ancient Chinese book records that the ancient Chinese dug caves in the cliffs and then used ropes to lift the coffins from the top of the mountains to the caves, without the need for scaffolding. But that tradition is gone, so we don't know how they dug the caves. Maybe through archaeology, we can solve the mystery later.

One of the key components to these boxes fitting so tightly is that there is NO measuring. After everything is sized equally, which is what he's doing with his caliper and sandpaper,, most of the cuts/notches are a matter of creating mirror images of the pieces, AND cutting on the right side of his layout lines. The man is a woodworking savant! Well done grandpa....
