This song destroys me emotionally. I've found myself in relationships with emotionally neglectful people, repeating harmful patterns I picked up from my parents. To have Taylor put this kind of poisonous dynamic into words so beautifully, it almost makes my brain short-circuit. It's nice to be seen.

My sister has been in this type of relationship for 20 years & has 4 kids with him. I wish this song was written 20 years ago

I imagine Princess Diana when I hear this song, even though I am aware it's based on the book "Rebecca".

I love the lyrics breakdown and comments, the different perspectives that you offer us! Your insights are interesting because you provide us a way to see things sometimes differently compared to the interpretation that I have (which is directly linked to my own experiences, that's the beauty of the lyricism of Taylor Swift). Greetings from Belgium 👋🏼🇧🇪

Yes, I heard her say the same thing that during lockdown she used "Rebecca" and her own experience for inspiration. When I heard this song it reminded me of the kind of toxic relationship you have when you're with a narcissist. I was in a toxic relationship with a narcissist that this song narrated perfectly.

watching from Brazil!! i love how much you pay attention to her lyrics, i might be wrong, but i think she said it (the song) wasn't written about one of her relationships, is about something that she watched or read about, but she can relate it to more than one of her old relationships

She said the idea came from Daphne DuMaurier's Rebecca and the relationship between Maxim and his young wife. The lyrics descibe it beautifully. I love their comments and viewpoints.

When I first heard the song I would have given it a 3 out of 5. After the 20th listen I give it 4.5 out of 5. The second half really evokes the emotions after you can digest and relate to it. The way she sings it throughout really captures the journey as well.

I interpreted this song as a moment in her head with everything she had went through and dealing with in this "relationship" with feeling all these feelings and doubts and rightfully questioning this person whether for real or really wanting to say it to them, because she started to watch them in the beginning of the song and then at the end. Right back to the start to the very end, which makes me think none of this was really spoke to them but she wanted to say it. but it can be metaphorical as well to what you stated. I would of liked a music video with this song, its so emotional and relatable to others for sure and taylor could definitely make this one into a short film. I always liked this song even though i couldn't relate to it entirely but it definitely is relatable to others who had the same thoughts and feelings and been through similar situations. i hope you react more songs off of folklore and evermore going into next year :)

She read a book and could relate to it and then created the song. Don’t think that qualifies as autobiographical.

i was in a relationship like this one exactly when i was 17-20, for 3 years with this man who was only 4 years older, but at 18, that's so much and it was exactly like this song, until i dis leave and removed that dagger.
