New Player's First LB3 Reactions! 🌱 WoW to FFXIV

So far on my WoW to FFXIV journey I've rolled credits on A Realm Reborn 2.0 MSQ and made my way through Patch 2.2 MSQ and Hildibrand Episode 1 & 2 - in todays clip we take a look at my reactions to seeing the Limit Break 3 for all jobs in FF14 bar the Viper and Pictomancer as at the time of recording Dawntrail had not released.
My journey of an Eorzean lifetime begins from asking myself one simple question on stream, Can a Classic WoW player start playing Final Fantasy XIV in June 2024 and catch up in time to be ready to join the new Dawntrail expansion?
This is my journey as a new player, a sprout, from WoW to FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, leading on through Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker and finally into the brand new expansion, Dawntrail.
Having played MMORPG's for over 20 years and being a long time World of Warcraft player from vanilla classic up to the latest expansion The War Within, I have seen and played A LOT of different MMO's over the years, but nothing could have prepared me for the adventures that await in Square Enix masterpiece, Final Fantasy 14.

Back in 2.0 there were no personal Limit Breaks for each job, It was specific to each role so Tanks was the same, Healers were the same and melee DPS and Caster DPS was the same, (Phys Ranged like Bard shared theirs with healers.) when they redid all Limit Breaks, the old ones were basically given to jobs to save "dev" time. Paladins got the one you see, WHM got the healing one, BLM got the caster one and MNK got the melee one. But I believe that all changed in Stormblood (Or Heavensward I can't quite remember.)

The best part about the healer LB3s is that, when they're used, typically almost everyone is dead, and all looks lost. But then HEALER LB3 and everybody rises back to life and the fight immediately continues again. It's quite magical in those moments.

As others have said, PLD's wall is hold over from ARR initial release where lb3 was same for each role set, so both tanks (war and pld) had that wall. While I would like to see it have a bit more flare to it, I appreciate the call back and history to it. Plus, all of pally abilities get very shiny later lol

It wasn't until later, (coulda been late ARR or HW,) where individual jobs got their own LB. All tanks had the wall raise, all melee had the monk fist, all mdps had the meteor, and all healers (and brd) had the healing LB. Once every job had their own LB, PLD was stuck with the wall, MNK was stuck with the fist, WHM was stuck (still pretty) with the cane, and BLM was stuck with the meteor (still great.) Anyway, TLDR: PLD wall is a relic of ARR release.

Yeah. Melee LB3s are all 'Fuck you in particular', while Ranged and Magic LBs are 'fuck you, the horse you rode in on, and everyone else around.' But at 1/3rd the potency of melee LBs, so they're better used during adds.

Had this actually happen once (I was one of the "guilty" RDMs) at the very end of the final Stormblood 24-man, when the final boss was at around 1-2% HP left. We somehow timed our LB3s _perfectly_ without having any way to coordinate it, so that our triple Vermilion Scourge went off at the _exact_ same time and finished the boss off right then and there. :P

Meanwhile, i stopped my burst to press it just so wed use it. And the whole party had my back and told him to just use it next time if you're gonna complain as we had it for a long time.

Paladin's looks like this because they are actually named Knights in Japanese. Its even part of their lore that they get their power not by serving the gods or upholding an oath, but by LARPing as knight kings of old and getting a smidge of their power via sympathetic magic. The Red Mage is the actual Paladin of the setting, as their whole thing is fighting evil and upholding their oaths.

Honestly, the healer ones are the most satisfying ones for me because it's like going "LOL NO" to a wipe. Of course, sometimes the party wipes anyways, which can deflate the feeling a bit, but when you truly, really rescue an entire party from death... that feels awesome. Second favorite to me has to be black mage's LB... just for the spectacle of it. I've been playing since 2013, back then I was on PS3 and the BLM LB3 (which was just the caster LB3 back then) always dropped like 10 frames... but I think that only added to it lol. You look up and HOLY SHIT THAT'S A METEOR.

I was once the last person standing as a RDM, we had LB3 available, I Verraised one of the healers and they popped it, we ended up clearing it was so satisfying and I got Every commision ever.

@@Agimam Reminds me of something similar that happened while I was running the final Stormblood 24-man as a RDM during the final boss. During the Phase Transition, Alliance B & C were more or less fine (at most they had just one person down each, and they were promptly brought back). Alliance A, however, _my_ Alliance got absolutely *_DECIMATED_* with only _two_ of us surviving: myself as the team's sole RDM....and our BRD. We'd lost our Tank, both Healers, and 3 of our 5 DPS. Within the 15-20 second window of "down time" we had, I was able to get our Tank, both Healers, and two of our three DPS (I couldn't get to our NIN in time both due to me burning all my MP [even with Lucid Dreaming active] on everyone else, and the NIN's body was all the way on the other side of the map) back on their feet all in time for us to go through the Phase Transition (I rezzed our NIN during the Phase Transition while helping out with the DPS check). As soon as the transition was over, party chat was lighting up with comments like: *"Red Mage Best Job"* and *"I think you mean Rez Mage"* ....Seeing that kind of praise being directed at _me_ (since I was our only RDM....and I may even have been the only RDM in the entire 24-man, I can't remember for certain due to how long ago this happened) felt _amazing_ ....and then once the fight was over, I received 5 Commendations for my efforts. :)

I think you should watch some of them again or a video about the LB's and focus on the animation of the character. Some of them have nice details, for example the Bard bows when the arrows rain down or the Whitemage prays in front of the summoned staff (which is an easter egg to Aerith from FF7 if I am correct) 😊

The detail i noticed in ff14 limit break or spell effects are the sky box Other MMO, since we constantly looking down towards the ground, in third person, the special effects maker obviously will only show the spell effects mostly on the ground, player can't focus looking at the sky mid combat so they don't put that effort in In ff14 however, the archer, black mage, etc, if you do a limit break, and you catch a glimpse, the sky box changed to the limit break. Showing how massive the spells are. It feels powerful, bombastic. Even some LB that doesnt affect the sky, the effects goes all the way up Most player will miss the skybox chsnge in combat, but for those who don't, it's a spectacle

Honestly I think out of all the tanks PLD is my favourite tank LB. Paladins are basically protection incarnate, they fill the fantasy role of knights and castles, it's only fitting that their ability to protect is a literal bastion of protection being that they themselves are a bastion of protection.

When I see pld's wall I feel protected, it feels like there is a solid something between you and the attack you're about to receive. With the other tanks it feels like they just covered you with wet tissue paper lol idk how else to describe it.

Before the induvidual limit breaks--- Bard used to have the Healer limit break as well (the WHM one). Now that was a sight to behold being a DPS and saving the raid.

I think the best part about Monk and White Mage’s LB3’s is the references they are. Monk is Tifa’s ultimate Limit Break; Final Heaven from FFVII. Likewise, White Mage’s is Aerith’s Pulse of Life, also from FFVII. I’m not sure if there are other explicit references in other LB3’s, but those in particular are unique because of those references

Those 2, along with BLM's Meteor are the most recognizable, but there are a bunch more: SAM's LB3 is Doom of the Living, Yuffie Kisaragi's penultimate limit break. But it may be more likely a reference to FF11, where Ninjas could use katana and this was one of their abilities. NIN's Chimatsuri is the Japanese name for another one of Yuffie's limit break, Bloodfest. RPR's "The End" is one of Selphie from ff8's slot limit break possibilities. It's a bit different in imagery though. MCH's satellite laser is one of Barret's limit breaks (I don't remember what level) SMN's Terraflare is also a recurring attack spell in FF in general. Bonus: phys. ranged lb2, Desperado is Laguna (FF8)'s limit break

For DPS LB3 the Melee classes have the highest damage followed by the ranged physical and then the magic classes. The Healer LB3 revives any KOed party members and full heals everyone. The Tank LB3 increases the parties defense up to like 85% (i think) for a few seconds. Tanks wont get to use theirs very often (there are some raids that will need it though), Healers may get to use theirs in 8 or 24 player raids, and DPS will tend to use theirs to try and finish off the last boss of dungeons (usually at like the last 5% of HP) and in raids (all 3 parties will have their DPS (usually a Melee) use their LB3 to finish off the last boss faster).

Ranged and caster LB3 is often used during big pulls to cut it down quick. Tank LB3 is 80% mitigation and have a few end expansion trials where you HAVE to use it. The final day and seat of sacrifice trials for instance.

@@DJVoxel wrong, ranged lb deals 90% of the damage magic lb does BUT it goes off faster and recovers quicker, though while also being harder to hit the reason you think that might be due to damage variance. if magic rolls low and ranged rolls high they can hit the same

I would actually like it if we got a full visual overhaul for all the LB3s at this point. like i'd love to see them drop Zetaflare for summoner at this point and make the meteor a lot more detailed and crazy or replace it with a condensed energy drop style explosion for black mage. just make everything look even cooler so that there's a little bit more finality and really make it all look like the apex of what can be done with the power of LB3

I mean, to be fair, Paladin is basically a protector in a lot of lore in XIV, so a fortification to protect everyone from damage might not be as flashy, but it's appropriate. Also, I think context plays a role in the PLD LB looking better... Tank LBs in raids often have to be used when the boss is about to unleash a move where everyone will insta-die without it, so when everyone else is physically behind the PLD and then that huge wall goes up and you see all the super-extra special effects and shit of the boss's move impact on the wall... it does look a LOT more impressive. That wall (and PLD) are the only things between you (the dps/healers) and hot oblivion visually blasting you in the face.

Trust me, a Healer LB3 is even more awesome when it prevents a wipe. I pulled off that exact thing with the Sage LB3 during the final Shadowbringers 24-man raid, I was the only member of my party alive at the time and I popped my LB3 and got my party back on their feet, even though I died in the process. It was literally like one of those anime moments where someone pulls off a clutch last-minute "Heroic Sacrifice" style save that gives the good guys just enough "oomph" back to end the fight. As awesome as the RDM LB3 (Vermilion Scourge) is however, it's actually pretty rare to see someone use it during a run since an LB3 is usually saved either for a Healer LB3 in the event things suddenly go pear-shaped out of nowhere, or for a Tank LB3 if there's a particularly nasty hit coming from a boss. You'll also not see it very often since it tends to _blind everyone_ to what's going on and can result in the RDM using it inadvertently causing other players to get hit and die to attacks they otherwise would have been able to avoid, simply because they can't _see_ where the AOEs they need to avoid actually are. Hence why I am very cautious about when (or if) I use an LB3 as a RDM. Even so, RDM is still my main Job, while SGE is my secondary Job, and there was one 24-man run where during the final boss of the run when they were on the verge of death, somehow all three parties' RDMs used their LB3 at the exact same time and just nuked the hell out of the boss and finished it off right then and there. The RDMs (of which I was one) didn't even have a way to coordinate, we just happened to collectively time the triple Vermilion Scourge perfectly. And when you get cinematic moments like that it's amazing.

How do you get into this area where you are using these Limit breaks so fast? Is it some kind of training area or something?

Once you've finished a dungeon you unlock explorer mode. You can access it in the duty window settings (top left cogwheel) once inside you can change jobs, spawn a training dummy and take pictures. Beware that the 10 min idle kick-out is still in effect though.

TBH I still think PLD one is rather more amusing then the other tank LB's and here is why: while the other tanks, 1 cuts the void for protection, 1 creates a reflective dome of light , and the other one raises a mountain, PLD just goes like , Yea nah a wall is enough, altho I would love to see it have more flare like his current wings, like he raises the wall and creates the wins in front

Reaper is awesome. Samurai used to be my favorite melee, and then I made a reaper. I love the flow and the animations... Definitely my favorite melee now. Also, thanks for the video; I hadn't seen all the LB3s.

I like Paladins, it's a huge wall, the last bastion. It's also the default tank LB3. Before Heavensward both PLD and WAR used that one, DRG, NIN and MNK all used the MNK LB3 and SMN and BLM both used the BLM LB3. Bard actually used the WHM LB3 along with WHM itself and SCH.

The healer ones are always the coolest in practice because they are so clutch. You'll just be laying there waiting for everyone to die and then you see the shoning light and are like HOLD UP HERE WE GO

I had an hw alliance raid where only me on RDM and a healer from another group was alive and the healer gets the lb3 and you just see a whole cluster of people come to life it was pretty cool

A tiny bit lore for Astro in case you don't want to play, the story explain why LB3 for astro exist but to make this as spoiler free as possible, lb3 for astro is the gateway door to 7th floor, aka Heaven, which is where no human suppose to pass in Alchemy. That's all I can tell you without telling you the rest of the story. :') Also Bard LB3 during ARR early days was massive REZ LB, so beside WHM and SCH, they were the only one allow to mass rez your party but it was later remove.

I do hope they'll one day make LBs per character like they are in PVP. LBs being tied to 'the group' is kinda just...not really breaking the limit of your mortal coil to bring about...*such devastation*. Ideally...they'd also add a Group LB (since the current group one would become individual) and Alliance (24man) LB; each being more insane than the last. Love the Machinist's just because of the mecha sound it makes right as it fires the laser.

Red Mage's Vermillion Scourge LB3 is often referred to as Verblind or Verflashbang because it's excellent at obscuring the boss's AoE markers. I've always taken care to use it judiciously (as RDM is my main) but... I've seen it used at some extremely inopportune moments. A couple of times, those wiped the tanks and healers, and then the rest of the party. And yes, Paladin's Wall-O-Protection needs a good gilding. Make it shiny, Squeenix!

If you understood the reference to the WHM limit break and monks limit break you will notice that its from FF7 Monk LB3 is Tifas Seventh Heaven and for WHM if you look and watch closely its Aeriths Healing Winds that also turns the WOLs staff into Aeriths body guard Rod (Her starter weapon) in FF7. As for the paladin i also agree, it is way to bland and boring.. what they should have done was have the walls Erect in front then the Wings of Alexander burst out from the sides closing in forward protecting them with his holy wings of light. I feel that would have givin the paladins LB3 a more holy themed Limit break.
