The WoW to FFXIV Journey Begins 🌱 Creating my First Character

My WoW to FFXIV journey begins with the sacred process of creating my first character... but first I need to learn about races!
My journey of an Eorzean lifetime begins from asking myself one simple question on stream, Can a Classic WoW player start playing Final Fantasy XIV in June 2024 and catch up in time to be ready to join the new Dawntrail expansion?
This is my journey as a new player, a sprout, from WoW to FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, leading on through Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker and finally into the brand new expansion, Dawntrail.
Having played MMORPG's for over 20 years and being a long time World of Warcraft player from vanilla classic up to the latest expansion The War Within, I have seen and played A LOT of different MMO's over the years, but nothing could have prepared me for the adventures that await in Square Enix masterpiece, Final Fantasy 14.

To answer the question "Can a classic WoW player start playing Final Fantasy XIV now and be 'ready' in time for the new Dawntrail expansion?" The answer is both no, and yes. No in that, you can't get through the entire story (and this IS a story based game) in time and in truth if you are engaging in the world fully as you progress then it may take you until the NEXT expansion to 'catch up' in story and world exploration. But YES you can be 'ready' in that, this game isn't like some MMORPG's whose "true game" is "end game." FFXIV's "true game" begins in character creation, and never stops, only evolves and adds on. So to that end, you are already ready! Now enjoy. :)

After rolling credits on ARR 2.0 after 9 days I realised that I want to stop and smell the roses, enjoy the journey of a lifetime and I am very happy with the decision to break free from the "falling behind / missing out" mentality. If no one explained this bit, the extra XP from the world bonus isn't that important. Even at normal XP rates, you will always be ahead of the content the main story quest progression keeps gated off until you reach it, so your progression speed on your first class is limited way more by how fast you can do the story quests, not what level you are.

I also started with that race. But their terrible scoliosis made me eventually swap to Au Ra. The nice thing is, at the end of ARR, he gets a free fantasia.

So, the reason why the game kept giving you Tia as the randomized catboy name is not because "Tia" is a tribe/the Smith family, but because of Sunseeker Miqo'te's naming conventions Every Sunseeker Miqo'te belongs to a tribe from one of the letters of the alphabet, that is the part before the apostrophe in their first name Each letter is supposed to be pronounced in a specific way and they represent a specific thing but the game mostly ignores that, the voice cast almost never pronounces sunseeker names correctly Each tribe has its males separated between two camps, the breeding males(Nunh) and the ones not allowed to breed(Tia), most tribes only have one Nunh but particularly big tribes can have multiple, the Nunh title is not the same as being the head of the tribe, although several tribe heads are Nunh For a Tia to become a Nunh they have to beat the Nunh in a trial, usually it's single combat but there are cases where they prove themselves worthy in other ways Female Sunseeker Miqo'te have their last name be the name of their father Only close friends and family members are usually allowed to call a Sunseeker by their name without their tribe letter For examples from characters you know, G'raha Tia can be read as "Raha of the G(pronounced "Goo") tribe, who is not allowed to breed" and Y'shtola Rhul can be read as "Shtola of the Y(pronounced "Yah") tribe, daughter of Y'rhul Nunh"

Not to worry, I am too busy enjoying the game to be "ready" for Dawntrail haha except for right now... because maintenance :(
