I met him when I was in college working at Bed Bath and Beyond in Northridge, CA. He was in the store with his wife and I went up to him and said, "Hey, you're Grant Geissman!". He laughed and said I was the 1st person who ever recognized him in public. I'd seen him play at the Baked Potato a number of times, but back in '84 he was still a sessions guy and not a 'celeb'. Never forgot that meeting or the 10-15 minutes we spent chatting that day. A true hero in my book. Class Act!

Everyone always talks about Carlton's "solo" with SD, and rightfully so, but the arrangement on Mangiones feels so good is so smooth you almost don't realize Geissman's guitar solo is a solo. I think it's equally if not more impressive. You won't get Larry to play his solo off the cuff in a music store either. To be clear I love both Larry Carlton and Grant Geissman. I just hope Grant gets as much recognition as he deserves!

Oh man, I just got goosebumps watching that. I actually did, that's not hyperbole. Such a great solo, a stop-and-listen-to-it moment whenever it came on the radio back in the day, and it sounds just as good now. Wonderful note selection and tremendous phrasing. I'm very happy for you Grant, that your work is considered KZbin worthy 40 years later. You deserve it for laying down such a dramatic and uplifting bit of music for us all to enjoy.

What the song name?
@turunturun
@turunturun 5 жыл бұрын
Israel Ray Jr “Feels So Good” from Chuck Mangione’s album of the same name. If you’ve never heard it and you’re into jazz guitar it’s a must listen. It’s definitely got a sound that’s stamped with the 80s but the guitar solos are works of biblical proportions. The title track solo he plays in the video is very very excellent but his solo in the track Hide And Seek will literally set your house on fire. The most insane -and insanely well crafted - solo I’ve ever heard with a clean tone.

To Grant: I'm just another douche that idolizes EVH, Wylde, Satriani, Bratta, etc. But I want you to know that you caught my attention early on as much or more as any of them, and even though I don't labor over all your works or even know them, I paid to have this solo written out because it's in my bucket list, and you did such a great job with it. Love that this video exists, and yes I will also be playing it higher on the fret board if I ever get it right at all.

I remember when i was about 15 years old when this came out and how AMAZED I was at the guitar solo. I literally thought it was 2 guitars playing. I was wrong obviously. I tried to learn it and FAILED miserably. To this day I just can't wrap my freakin fingers and my brain around this solo. I just can't play it and stopped trying. LOL. It is truly one of the greatest solo's ever. I wasn't into Jazz during my teen years, but "Feels So Good" was so damn good and alluring that it sucked you in to loving it. I'm a fan of Jazz now, for a long time, because of Feels so Good and Geissman's excellent and creative solo guitar playing on it. Thank you sir!

That solo is what made me love Chuck Mangione - a horn player simply carried the melody and made the big highlight of his single a killer guitar solo. And its a BIG SOLO. Chuck made Grant's guitar solo the centerpiece of a horn player's song. Smart. It helped make the song a huge hit.

Thanks to Grant, he got me interested in Jazz and definitely an influence as a guitar player. The tone, technique and the way it's executed is nothing less than brilliant. Whoever the 6 morons are that gave this a thumbs down are either jealous or have ZERO taste in music and should be douched with Drano.
