Probably the most underrated band of all time. I always return to their albums. His vocals are incredible.

Great song, heard it on Netflix’s Beef and had to look it up. Don’t know how this band escaped me in the 90s
@violetxoxox Жыл бұрын
Same for me. I heard it on Beef and thought, “Wow, that guy sounds SO much like the guy who sang that song from the movie Velvet Goldmine!” Turns out “that guy” was also Grant Lee Buffalo! (“The Whole Shebang,” findable here on KZbin.) I’ve been listening to the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack ever since the movie first came out in 1998 and I honestly never noticed who sang it, but I always assumed it was a UK artist and I thought the song was a cover of something from the ‘70s, since most of the songs in the movie were. I’m not sure how I missed Grant Lee Buffalo in the ‘90s, because I was living in a boarding house next to the UC Berkeley campus and listening to nothing but alternative and indie music at the time. How could I never have heard this???

@violetxoxox also we were bombarded with great music and a ton of it constantly in the 90s so im still finding stuff that i either forgot about or never heard from that decade.

This is even better than the original studio version. The distorted acoustic guitar is sooooo good.

Andrew, we here in Brazil used to be listeners from MTV Brazil (now defunct). GLB was huge, they had heavy rotation amongst the programming, especially the alt rock shows.

I first randomly heard this song some 25 years ago, it was an instant grabber for me. I was looking for it for years cuz i did not know the name of the band or of the song. I kept searching for mockingbirds and do detective work to find this gem. I think is one of the greatest songs ever made, seriously.

How’s that 12,string acoustic playing lead electric/ distortion???? Was that played over a previously recorded track?? Seems there’s an underlying track echoing here. Live this song and Grant Lee, just curious

I have the same question!! Can that acoustic guitar make those sounds? Or was it a pre-recorded backing track?🤔

it can make those sounds, it has a pickup in the soundhole meaning it can be played through an amp like an electric @@ivorysoap

there's a electric guitar pickup through the hole, so i guess he uses it during the solo

It’s a 12 string acoustic that he runs to the amp and PA via the pickup in the sound hole.
@OTOss811 ай бұрын
You don't have to pluck both strings on a 12 if you don't want to. You can just pluck the top string in the course if that's all you want to do.
