It's folk with a country twang to it. I'd recommend some of Neil Young's albums such as Harvest Moon and On The Beach as well some of Bob Dylan's work such as Blood on the Tracks and The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. If you were to go a more modern approach, I'd recommend Chris Stapleton's album Traveller.
