Yeah it’s always a good idea to run at an angle for vertical tillage and I recommend an angle for ripping too it helps smooth the soil also helps break up clods and compaction better

Those steering boxes love to over correct. Before we put integrated valves in we would run the diff lock once lined up. Helps keep it from walking around. Tap the brake on the end to cancel the diff, make your turn, set the steer, diff lock again.

You can safely push most engines until they reach about 1800 rpm. Your tractor was doing fine at 10 mph and 2100 rpm. I would look into converting your cultivator harrow to rolling baskets

What we do is we chop the stalks and chisel corn ground in the fall and in the spring go through with the disk to level the deep ruts then a field cultivator to make a nice seed bed. Just a Suggestion

Here is a tip for soybeans. Get a harrow or a land roller to flatten the ground or to take out the little humps from behind the planter and for picking up rocks that can cause damage or get picked up in your header. For the rocks you should pick up is softball size and bigger.

Grant, with the commodity prices on the up and up if extra ground is available to rent you should jump on it, even if they don't want to sell it rent it, if Spencer is committed to helping you just as soon go all in, it's the same trouble to farm 200 acres as it is 1000 you just have to stay in the field a few more days, with 8 dollar corn and 16 dollar soybeans take advantage while you can, because when it's gonna flip around( and it always does) it's going to be like a run away train , this is my 30th crop I put in the ground belive me when I tell you I've seen many more years of 2.50 to 3.00 corn than I've seen 7 to 8 dollar, same for the soybeans in the late 80s and early 90s we sold many bushels of soybeans at 5 dollars!!

I don't have much experience with the aftermarket steering systems, but I would bet that the differential lock will help keep it straighter through the field. I run the diff lock on my planters to keep it from fighting each direction. The VT did a great job!

I use the waas system instead of rtk, had the issue with it “zig zagging”. Recalibrated it and turned my p gain up to 8.0 and it drives prettt straight! But messing with the aggressiveness and also d gain will help

On low land you'll find it's just that but wetter. My father goes crazy for drainage. One of the things he's started doing is finding "springs" where ground water rises to nearer the surface. You wouldn't believe how much water and how wet the ground gets because of springs. Problem is finding them, my brother is pretty good at "divining", I know it sounds crazy but if you take 2 pieces of high tensile electric fence wire, bend them over into an "L" shape, hold onto the short ends loosely one wire in each hand and when you cross over alot of water either flowing or rising they'll cross over eachother. It sounds crazy but I'm telling you it works. Try it over that water line you put in to your shed.

Hey Guys, I noticed that you’re using a couple of Midland handheld FRS or Family Radio Service radios. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how important good, reliable communications is. FRS is good for short (and I mean SHORT) range and you’re limited to the low power handheld units. Might I suggest obtaining your GMRS (General Mobile Radios Service) license which will allow you to purchase and use higher power, longer range mobile radios in your trucks, equipment and even as a base station. With FRS, the max transmit power is .5 watts, GMRS allows for up to 50 watts. One license (now $35 for a ten year period) covers ALL of your immediate family members. You can find new and used handheld and mobile radios at varying prices on eBay. You can also expand your coverage area by adding a repeater but that gets a bit more complicated. I would suggest just starting off with a couple of mobiles (one for your truck and one for Spence’s truck and a couple of handheld units and try them out. See if this will work for you. While I am not a professional radio tech, I am a licensed GMRS user with handheld, mobile, base and several repeaters and would be glad to walk you through everything if you want to reach out. I hope my suggestion results in helping you improve your operation and wish you luck with your future endeavors. Grant if you gonna disk go at angle and do it in fall and put that disk deep to chop the stock up do obviously on corn and on beans you can do no till or if you can put hog manure down and cultivate or disk in that help so much

You should usually deep rip beans in the fall before it freezes and then field cultivate(fc) in the spring. Rip at an angle one way then (fc)in the opposite direction but at the same angle. Also you can’t do anything to stop corn plug ups, sometimes even in beans you’ll get them but not as bad or often

If you plan on running in the dark, LED lights wouldn’t be a bad idea. Put some on 2 tractors this year, made a huge difference over the halogens. Larsen lights makes kits for tractors, I helped put lights on an 8300 this winter there is definitely one for your 8110

I've farmed for thirty-five plus years always cultivated prior to planting at a angle to help level and make it easier planting. I never had gps driven tractors either. Most of my farming was wheat and milo . Plus alfalfa for our dairy.

You have a good thing going man . After this season I would invest in another medium size HP tractor . Like a nice 8960 as a tiller tractor . You have a nice planting / spraying tractor already just need something a lil bigger for tillage and maybe one day a grain cart . Save wear and tear on your nice gravity wagons . Diesel prices are so high we are cutting back on as much tillage as possible. It's just not feasible to keep working ground at over 5$ a gallon.

I’ll speak for myself it’s a lot of hard work but it’s a really good life , grew up on a small dairy farm in New York and I wouldn’t trade it for anything … the family farm just sold and now I’m in the process of getting my own equipment and looking for a farm of my own while working a full time job turning wrenches on tractors… best advice I could give you is go work for a farmer learn the ins and out of farming get some knowledge
