Definitely one for lovers of both Caledonian and string orchestra music. Great blend here of high-spirited and elegiac poignancy. Much as I feel refreshed by the lively dances, I always get lump-in-the-throat moments when I hear things like the Dirge (4:38) and the Gaelic Melody (11:42). Nicely spacious acoustic in the recording.

Lovely. Always have loved orchestral music based on any folk tradition. Scottish has been a fave for decades.

The similarities between Irish and Scottish music are such that each could easily be the music of the other country with one major exception; in Ireland, we do not have Strathspeys and I really DO like a Strathspey! That said, we can PLAY a Strathspey even if we don't have this time-step in our dances... check out The Chieftains doing a grand job on the Strathspey, 'The Dogs Among the Bushes' from 'Chieftains 8'. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGOtXoiVidJrbcU

Tony, there was a delay in your comment appearing, owing to it including a hyperlink (I've remedied that now). It's a month since Paddy Moloney passed away - I uploaded something of his (it's likely to ultimately be blocked by YT) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZ23cnebadiClZo

@@RoddersClassical There seems to be a general stiffening of restrictions - is it not permitted to include a hyperlink to a video which KZbin has already sanctioned? Let us hope that your own link is not blocked.
